The Fear
Why Angel Tree ®
Children of prisoners are probably some of the loneliest
children in Australia. They feel isolated, rejected,
abandoned and ashamed.
There are more than 38,000 children in our nation who
are affected by having a parent in prison. And though, of
course the children are blameless, they too live in a kind of
prison.
Angel Tree ® is the Prison Fellowship program set up
to remember these children at Christmas time. Not
to replace absent parents but to provide a present to
the imprisoned parent to give to their child at Christmas
visiting times. And to give the whole family – perhaps
for the first time – the true freedom of experiencing
Christmas joy.

Prison Fellowship celebrates the joy of our second decade
of giving Angel Tree ® presents to the children of prisoners
in SA. We deliver presents to Adelaide Pre-release Centre,
Adelaide Women’s Prison, Cadell Training Centre, Mobilong
Prison, Port Lincoln Prison and Yatala Labour Prison.
Most prisoners fear their
children might repeat their own
criminal mistakes. This fear is
well founded. Studies show
that children of prisoners are six
times more likely than others
to commit crimes. Happily, by
reaching children before they can become crime statistics,
whole families can be freed from that burden.
So a gift to Angel Tree ® is truly a gift of freedom.

The freedom of social acceptance and the hope of a new
start based on Christian love and caring.
