<strong>Why</strong> <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong>?There are currently 40,000 Children in <strong>Australia</strong> thathave a parent or significant other in <strong>Prison</strong>.In Western <strong>Australia</strong>, there are over 4,000 Childrenthat we know of that have a parent in <strong>Prison</strong> andthose Children are stuck in a cycle of loneliness,abandonment, shame of having a parent in prison,being bullied for their circumstances and not beingable to spend Christmas with their parent.ANGELTREE<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> is a project set up during Christmas timethat includes local churches in delivering presents onbehalf of that Childs incarcerated parent, this presentwill be delivered by a church member in thatprisoner’s families local area, this is a means ofconnecting families to local churches to providesupport and also for that parent in prison, a way toshow their child that they still love them and they arethinking about them thisChristmas!<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> delivered presents to my children from mefor 18 years while I was in Bandyup. There are nowords to express my gratitude to the people and thechurch that was involved with this. <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong>How does <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> Work?<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> is a project of <strong>Prison</strong> <strong>Fellowship</strong> howeverlocal churches purchase, deliver and connect with the4,000 children on our database from Kununurra toEsperance.Churches assign a representative from their church tobe the <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> Coordinator who is the linkbetween their church and <strong>Prison</strong> <strong>Fellowship</strong>.Generally Churches start promoting <strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> withintheir community in August/September gatheringvolunteers and supporters to purchase and deliverpresents to the families in their local area.<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> is a fantastic outreach to get connectedwith families in there local area.Late October you will receive confidential details from<strong>Prison</strong> <strong>Fellowship</strong> with the details of the children'snames and ages.<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> is a program for your whole church!Children can design and make Christmas cards withyour church’s details on them, Your women's ministryand seniors groups can make food hampers whileyour youth ministry purchases and delivers thepresents together!Delivering Christmas GiftsAfter your church receives details of the family, youcan now start having fun shopping for these childrenand getting ready to deliver the presents to the homesof the families.Anytime in December your church can deliver thesegifts, make sure to attach cards or details of yourchurches Christmas services, carols or Christmascelebrations that you will be hosting so that thefamilies know who you are!For those families in regional areas, don’t leaveposting gifts to the last minute!After Christmas Follow UpJust because Christmas has finished and the childrenhave their presents, don't feel that has to be the lastcontact!<strong>Why</strong> not follow up and see how their Christmas wentand invite the children to your children's ministry withthe parents approval!<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> TimelineJuly - Applications are released into CorrectionalCentres for inmates to completeAugust - <strong>Prison</strong> <strong>Fellowship</strong> releases promotionalmaterials to churches giving them an opportunity to beinvolvedSeptember/October - Churches promote the projectin their church, raising awareness, training is given toChurch coordinators.November/December - Churches are provided withthe details of the children to purchase presents for.Presents are purchased and delivered in December.January - Unserved applications to be returned to<strong>Prison</strong> <strong>Fellowship</strong>, and a debrief will be held.<strong>Angel</strong> <strong>Tree</strong> Western <strong>Australia</strong>
