Have you seen the
Duffy Theatre yet this year
Don’t worry if you haven’t because soon you’ll get the chance to save your local library
in the latest adventure from the Duffy Books in Homes theatre team.
In Duffy’s Book Bus Adventure, which is visiting over
500 schools around the country this year, Mr Barrier
sets out to shut down the library service since it makes no money. However,
the show’s hero Duffy and his librarian friends Awhina and Tiaki pull out all the
stops to ensure that libraries remain free and available for their community.
The story reaches beyond school halls thanks
to a partnership between Duffy Books and
Public Libraries of New Zealand. After you see the
theatre your teacher will give you a card which
is stamped whenever you visit your local library.
Once you collect five stamps you’ll receive a free
book to keep, thanks to Duffy Books in Homes
and Scholastic.
There’s one more thing to look out
for when the theatre visits your school.
After every performance three children chosen by the school
will receive a certificate and book from the finalists of the 2011
New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards. The New Zealand Post
Award for Great Effort in Reading and Writing recognises Duffy kids
who have made an extra effort and gives them access to some of the
latest high quality books from New Zealand authors.
Will you be a winner this year

Last year, Members of Parliament (MPs)
and other Government representatives
visited Duffy schools around New Zealand.
They helped give out books and talked to Duffy kids just like you about the importance
of reading. This year, maybe you could write a letter to your local MP, Mayor, Councillor
or other Government representative. Ask them if they’d like to visit your school
in the last week of term to help give out the Duffy books.
