– Create export opportunities
– Counteract imports of cheaper, often-subsidised
products
– In Africa society must however also realise that:
“ The man who has bread has many problems; the
man who has no bread has only one”
– Need to also maintain a balance of producing cheaper,
but still safe food for a population with great disparities
in disposable income
