ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS .....continued THREE SESSION ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Prerequisites for Part 1: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification or Interim Certificate of Qualification. 2) Evidence of a basic qualification in one of: the Primary Division, the Junior Division, the Intermediate Division or the Senior Division in general studies is required in order to take courses in Accounting, Computer Science, Data Processing, Dramatic Arts, Entrepreneurship Studies, Family Studies, French as a Second Language, Junior Education, Librarianship, Marketing, Mathematics (P/J), Physical and Health Education (P/J and I/S), Primary Education, Reading, or Science (P/J). Prerequisites for Part 2: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification showing successful completion of Part 1 or the equivalent of the three-session qualification. 2) Evidence of at least one (1) year of successful teaching experience in Ontario certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer or proof of at least one (1) year of successful teaching experience outside Ontario certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer on the OISE Certification of Teaching Experience Form available at: http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/aq/registration/forms.html#forms. Prerequisites for Part 3: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification showing successful completion of Part 1 and Part 2 or the equivalent of the three-session qualification. 2) Evidence of at least two (2) years of successful teaching experience, including one (1) year of experience in Ontario in the subject in which the qualification is being sought. This experience must be certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer on the OISE Certification of Teaching Experience Form available at: http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/aq/registration/forms.html#forms. NOTES: - Part 1 courses do not give you a division. Please see the Primary, Junior, Intermediate and/ Senior Basic Qualification courses for a division. - Technological Studies teachers are eligible to take the following three session qualification courses: Computers in the Classroom, Co-operative Education, Design and Technology, English as a Second Language, Guidance, Media, Music-Vocal P/J, Music- Instrumental, Special Education, Visual Arts. HONOUR SPECIALIST ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Prerequisites: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification showing a basic qualification in one of: the Primary Division, the Junior Division, the Intermediate Division or the Senior Division in general studies. 2) Official university transcript(s) showing proof an acceptable academic university degree conferred by an accredited institution, acceptable to the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Teachers, with a minimum of 20 full university degree credit courses or the equivalent. Courses required for teaching certification or additional teaching qualifications cannot be used for this requirement. 3) Official university transcript(s) showing one of the following: a. For a single Honour Specialist, proof of successful completion of 9 full university degree credit courses or the equivalent in the subject in which the Honour Specialist qualification is being sought with an overall average of at least a “B” or “70%”. b. For a combined Honour Specialist, proof of successful completion of 14 full university degree credit courses or the equivalent in the 2 subjects in which the combined Honour Specialist qualification is being sought, including no fewer than 6 full university degree credit courses or the equivalent in each subject. The 14 full courses must, together, have an overall average of at least a “B” or “70%”. Both of the Honour Specialist courses in the combination must be successfully completed before the qualification will be recommended to the Ontario College of Teachers to be added to the Certificate of Qualification. c. For two separate single Honour Specialist qualifications in two subjects, of the 20 full university degree credit courses or the equivalent, applicants must have 9 full university degree credit courses in each of the two subjects in which the Honour Specialist Qualifications are being sought. Each set of 9 full university degree credit courses must have an overall average of at least a “B” or “70%”. Courses, which have been previously used for admission to an Honour Specialist course, cannot be used for admission to any other Honour Specialist course. 4) Evidence of at least two (2) years of successful teaching experience, including one (1) year of experience in Ontario in the subject in which the qualification is being sought. This experience must be certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer on the OISE Certification of Teaching Experience Form available at: http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/aq/registration/forms.html#forms. For a combined Honour Specialist, proof of teaching experience is required in only one of the areas and the Honour Specialist course in that subject must be completed first. Applicants who have applied for a single Honour Specialist but who do not meet the prerequisites may also be considered for a combined Honour Specialist. It is OISE’s practice to process an application for one of the combined subjects, and to advise the applicant accordingly. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS .....continued TECHNOLOGICAL STUDIES BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Prerequisites: For applicants who already have Technological Studies listed on their Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification or Interim Certificate of Qualification. This Certificate must have an entry in a Basic Technological Studies subject. For applicants who DO NOT have Technological Studies listed on their Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification, the prerequisites are detailed in the Technological Studies Information Booklet which is available at: www.oise.utoronto.ca/aq/download/TechBooklet-06.pdf. Applicants are responsible for reading the Technological Studies Information Booklet and for ensuring they have met the admission requirements stated in the Booklet before applying. For more information on the seven areas of “broad-based technology”, acceptable formal education and wage earning experience, the Technical Proficiency Examination (TPE) and how to document proof of skilled wage-earning industry/business experience, please see our Web site at: www.oise.utoronto.c/aq/registration/requirements_tech.html TECHNOLOGICAL STUDIES ADVANCED QUALIFICATIONS Prerequisites: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification or Interim Certificate of Qualification showing proof of a basic level qualification in the same subject. 2) Provide proof of one year of work experience or education or a combination of education and business or industrial experience in the area of intended qualification. 3) Proof of a relevant two or three-year diploma or the equivalent from a College of Applied Arts and Technology or Polytechnic Institute or University, or the relevant MTCU trade Certificate of Qualification (C of Q), accompanied by the examination details showing at least 70% (B) standing. TECHNOLOGICAL STUDIES HONOUR SPECIALIST Prerequisites: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification or Interim Certificate of Qualification showing one of the following: - Three Basic Technological Studies qualifications plus one at the Advanced level. The entry at the Advanced level must correspond to one of the Basic Technological Studies qualifications (a total of four additional qualifications). - Four Basic Technological Studies qualifications and a three-part (Specialist) qualification. Note: Design and Technology or Industrial Arts, Part 1 or Computer Studies - Computer Technology may be used as one Basic entry. 2) Evidence of at least two years of successful teaching experience, including one year of experience in Ontario in Technological Studies. This experience must be certified by the appropriate Supervisory Officer on the OISE Certification of Teaching Experience Form. 3) Official transcripts showing proof of successful completion of one of the following: - Grade 13 or 6 OACs. - Five full university degree credit courses. Courses credited towards teaching certification or additional teaching qualifications cannot be used for this requirement. - One year of full-time study at a C.A.A.T. which required a Secondary School Graduation Diploma for admission. PRINCIPAL’S QUALIFICATIONS PROGRAM Prerequisites for PQP Part 1: 1) A photocopy of your current Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate of Qualification showing basic qualifications in three (3) divisions (including an Intermediate Basic divisional qualification). 2) Official university transcript(s) showing that an acceptable university degree has been conferred. 3) Evidence of one of the following: a. Successful completion of an acceptable Master’s or Doctorate degree. b. Two (2) Three Session Specialist or Honour Specialist Additional Qualifications. c. One (1) Three Session Specialist or Honour Specialist Additional Qualification and an official transcript showing successful completion of at least half the number of courses required to qualify for an acceptable Master’s degree from an accredited university. Since graduate programs vary in course requirements and duration, a letter from the University confirming that you have successfully completed at least half the number of courses to qualify for an acceptable Master’s degree is also required. 4) Evidence of at least five (5) years of successful teaching experience as certified by an appropriate Supervisory Officer on the Principal’s Qualification Program Certification of Teaching Experience Form available on our Web site: http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/aq/registration/forms.html#forms.
