Data Recorder Interface
Data Transfer and Data Display Software
for SIR-1000 Series of High-Speed
Digital Data Recorders

For Windows ® 95 / Windows NT ®
PCscan III is a software program transferring measurement data
recorded by SIR-1000 series of high speed digital data recorder
to a personal computer. Search for interested data on a tape
could be easier and faster with PCscan III ’s simple operation.
PCscan III enables analog data to be checked in a form of
waveforms or numerical values on monitor display. PCscan III
can export the data in many well-used file formats for analysis.
Besides, PCscan III is also capable of simultaneous replaying
MPEG video and analog data, which significantly enhances the
efficiency of measurement and analysis.
(Video replay is supported in MPEG 1 only, although data
transferring of both MPEG 1 and 2 is supported.)
High Speed Digital Data Recorder, SIR-1000 Series
This series is a high-speed digital data recorder based on
the Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT), which is the most
advanced magnetic recording technology up to now. It
offers non-stop recording as long as 2 hours for a
bandwidth as wide as 20kHz up to 16 channels for the
standard and it could be expanded to as many as 128
channels/recorder. SIR-1000W enables 160kHz recording
in the use of four channel mode, SIR-1000 and 1000i
enables 20kHz recording in the use of 16 channel mode.
Digital data output through SCSI interface is available in
addition to analog output. It achieves easy data transfer to a
personal computer at high speed.
PCscan III provides a data recording system using the SIR-1000 series of
high-speed digital data recorders. This series includes among its many
features a high-performance A/D converter, data recording in a wide
bandwidth of 20 kHz (or, with the SIR-1000W, up to 160 kHz), expandability
from 16 up to 128 channels (or, with the SIR-1000W, up to 4 channels for
160 kHz and up to 16 channels for 40 kHz), digital data input options to
meet users’ requirements, data storage with a large capacity up to 25GB,
and a data search capability at high speeds up to 75 times normal speed.
With PCscan III, all these functions can easily and comfortably be
controlled using mouse operations in Windows ® 95 or WindowsNT ® .
Data Transfer
High-accuracy data recorded by the SIR-1000 series can be directly
transferred to the computer’s hard disk under the filenames of the user’s
choice. The entire contents of a tape can be viewed at a glance and the
desired data can be accessed quickly using the TOC (table of contents)
information recorded on the tape.
•Transfer triggers
IDs, addresses, time codes (Real Time Pack), current positions
• Transfer size settings
Channel selection, decimation, auto numbering
• TOC information display
Display of TOC information (IDs, B/C modes, tape speeds, recording
durations, etc.) recorded on the tape, enabling quick selection of the
target data
• Real-time data filing
Data can be transferred to the computer in real-time as the
measurements are being performed, and filed.
Data Transfer Window
TOC (Table of Contents)
All the TOC information for the data recorded on a tape is recorded on
the tape and in the memory (MIC: Memory in Cartridge) installed in the
cartridge. Recorded in TOC is such information as the IDs, B/C modes,
tape speeds and recording durations, and the recorded contents can be
checked at a glance. Using this information, target data blocks can easily
be selected and transferred from the screen.
• TOC information
IDs, start IDs, data types (analog/digital/full/mixed), B/C modes, tape
speeds, recording lengths, recording dates, recording times
TOC Window
By means of 32-bit mode programming, PCscan III affords quick access to
the very data required for actual analysis from among the huge volumes of
data contained on a tape. Simply by clicking or dragging the mouse,
whatever data is needed can be enlarged or reduced by zooming in or out
and filed away in the optimum format. Analysis can be performed for
specifically selected ranges of data, the data can be monitored as waveforms,
numerical values, sound or images, and only those channels needed can be
converted into the format of the user’s choice, and exported.
Work Bench Window
Data Viewer
On the Work Bench Window, the transferred data can be monitored in
greater detail, and the data needed can be selected and filed under the
format of the user’s choice. Simply by clicking or dragging the mouse,
waveforms can be enlarged by zooming in, channels can be selected at
will, and the kind of operating ease available only from Windows ® 95 or
WindowsNT ® can be assured. Furthermore, using a sound board, selected
data can be reproduced as sounds which is very helpful for monitoring
noise or acoustic data.
Data Conversion
•Display selection
Number of channels, Zoom in/out, Channel labeling, Engineering unit
conversion
•Data monitoring
Maximum values, Minimum values, P-P values, Average values,
RMS values, Times, Frequencies, List data, Sounds
•Data output settings
Channels, Decimation, File formatting
•Data analysis results display
Analysis of data in the range selected by the mouse and display of
analysis results; Choice of analysis functions including power spectrum,
1/3 octave, Histogram, X-Y graph plotting, Primary differentiation, and
Secondary differentiation and integration; Analysis results printed out or
saved as files.
•Real-time analog data monitoring
The prevailing measurement conditions can be displayed as waveforms
in real time. (Real Time Pack)
Data in a specific range can be selected by clicking and dragging the
mouse on the Work Bench Window and converted into a dedicated file
format for direct analysis using a wide range of analysis software. This
enables the high-accuracy measurement data recorded by the SIR-1000
series to be analyzed with no accompanying deterioration, leading to
high-quality analysis results.
• Formats supported
Binary (Intel86), Binary (Motorola68), ASCII-Eng (delim/comma),
ASCII-Eng (delim/tab), ASCII-Eng (delim/space), WAVE, DADiSP,
MATLAB, SnapMaster (HEM), STAR, nVision (EZFile) UDF58 (I-
Computer Interface
PCscan III supports the Wide SCSI-2 interface.
• Streamer Pack: This is used for real-time data transfer using an STB-10
board and SDX drive. It is also used for data display functions. When used in
conjunction with an SDX emulation board (STB-10) and SDX streamer drive,
additional functions are provided: already recorded data can be transferred and
displayed, and data can be converted for major analysis software programs.
• Real Time Pack: This is used for real-time data transfer using the STB-30
board. When used in conjunction with a high-speed SCSI transfer board (STB-
30), a recorder in the SIR-1000 series can be used as a compact, highperformance
front end, enabling waveform display and data transfer to be
accomplished.
