Youth Justice
Well after almost a year the process involved for acceptance and swearing in of the Youth Justice
Committee has been finalized. In November 2009 Rebound held the mandatory training for
all approved committee members from the Ministry of the Attorney General. Two trained Ministry
facilitators came to Sarnia and worked with our local volunteers regarding Youth Justice Committee
practices. On February 17, 2010 and March 1, 2010 the local Crown Attorney Diane Foster
witnessed the signing of the Oath of Confidentiality and Memorandum of Understanding, all of
which has been submitted to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The continued commitment
and dedication by our Committee Members to this process is truly, truly appreciated.
Just as reminder for all Justice Committee Members, you will require an updated CPIC by June
31, 2010. You should have all received an information package in the mail and if you haven not
please contact me at the office and I will be sure to get one out as soon as possible. A reminder
that at the end of August 2010 the Memorandum of Understanding expires and Rebound will be
required to have all Justice Committee members sign documentation once again.
S.A.F.E. CHOICES
This past winter SAFE Choices served 18 participants. It meant for great discussions and learning
opportunities for all involved. We had four wonderful guest speakers take time to come and speak
with the group which is always so important and they are greatly appreciated by not only the
participants and volunteers in the program but myself as well. A new lesson was piloted in the winter
session of SAFE discussing stimulants and depressants. This is seen as a very informative addition to
the program.
F r a n c h i s e s
On April 20, 2010, we hosted a Franchise City meeting and
had a great turnout! There was representation from Kingston,
Brockville, Sault St. Marie and Kettle Point. Although it was
only a one day workshop, our collaboration was priceless.
Topics of discussion were:
Funding; Volunteer recruitment and retention
Program material; Documentation
Community partners; Parent services
Over view of the Life Skills Model
All franchises received an updated program manual, which
they were extremely grateful for. There was a lot of positive
feedback from each franchise representative and everyone
took something away from the meeting. The general consensus
is that we continue to meet on a yearly basis.
