"Saturday, October 7.-- Alexander Brebner, groom, was charged with having, on the 25th of July last culpably, carelessly and recklessly
driven a horse and gig along the public road leading from Burntisland to Thornton, in consequence of which the shaft of the gig, at a place
in Gallatown, came in contact with Lillias Brochie and knocked her down, and the wheel of the gig having passed over her, she was
considerably bruised and wounded, and had seven of her ribs broken. He pleaded not guilty, and a proof being led, the jury found him guilty
of culpable and reckless driving, and he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment."

"The Alleged Theft by a Jeweller"
"The case of George Brebner (31), working jeweller, Hutcheon Street, which was reported in our columns yesterday, came up for decision
before Baillie Berry at Aberdeen Police Court to-day. It will be remembered that Brebner was accused of stealing a watch from George
Munro, watchmaker, Gilcomston Steps, by asking it on approval and afterwards pawning it. Accused had maintained that he had bought
the watch, not got it on approval, and intended to pay for it. Addressing accused to-day the Magistrate said he had some difficulty in
deciding the case as there were two contradictory statements made by Munro and accused. The one stated that the watch was got on
approval and the other that it was purchased. In the absence of any evidence corroborative of Munro's statement, the Baillie felt compelled
to give accused the benefit of the doubt, and he would find the charge not proven. Brebner left the Court saying he would pay Munro for
the watch "right enough."
I wonder if Baillie Berry was related to George's wife Mary Ann At any rate, it doesn't appear that George learnt his lesson...

"Theft From a Union Street Jeweller"
"George Brebner was charged at a pleading diet of a Sheriff and Jury Court today -- before Sheriff Brown -- with having in March, from
the shop 151 Union Street, occupied by William Miller, stolen a brooch, and on various occasions between 28th May and 4th July stolen a
set of studs and sleeve links and four brooches. He pleaded guilty. Mr. J.T. Jeffery, solicitor, having made a statement on accused's behalf,
Mr. Wilson mentioned that the value of the goods was £6. Accused had been about two years in the employment of Mr. Miller. who was
removing at the time, and thus made the thefts the easier. The Sheriff remarked on the serious nature of the crime, which was aggravated
by being committed on an employer. In respect that accused had not been previously convicted, the sentence would be restricted to forty
days' imprisonment."

"Mr. Brebner, who was 58 years of age, contracted pneumonia and passed away suddenly. Educated at King's College School, he was
formerly in the Share and Loan Department of the Stock Exchange."
"Under the nom de plume of Christian Lys, and afterwards under his own name, he was responsible for a number of novels and also for

young men pleaded guilty to committing such an offence against a neighbour."

fined £10; and George Brebner, laboratory assistant, 91 Whitehall Place, was placed on probation for twelve months and ordered to find

"The Indictment -- The indictment against the three accused stated that, while acting together in Northfield Place, or elsewhere in
Aberdeen, they wrote and posted, or caused to be posted, a letter to a resident in Northfield Place. The terms of the letter were that:"
"Your unlawful dealings of the past few years would doubtless interest your employer, the police, and the Brotherhood of which you are
an esteemed member."
"The consequences if such information is divulged are obvious, and would have a serious effect on your future."
"These facts, together with some conclusive evidence acquired, need not be disclosed if your co-operation is forthcoming."
