Product Profile
The LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator is a system which is designed to detect breathing
and movement sub-surface and locate victims trapped as a result of catastrophes.
The UWB GPR (Ultra Wide Band Ground Penetrating Radar) transmitter will penetrate the
search area by generating continuous electromagnetic signals. The unit receives the reflected
signals continuously and uses a series of sophisticated algorithms to process the data received.
All constant images, which indicate no change in data, are eliminated as these represent no
indication of human life. However, if there is any change in the data from the target area, then
this indicates movement and is immediately highlighted and alarms as a possible life.
This is detailed on the rescuer’s control unit LEADER SEARCH Radar Life Locator can detect
movement as small as someone breathing below up to 10 metres of rubble. Breathing rates vary
vastly, from around one breath per two seconds (in panic situations) to one breath in ten
seconds (such as when unconscious), Therefore, each target zone is scanned thousands of
times over a pre-determined period of between 15 to 180 seconds. The parameters can be
determined by the user depending on the environmental conditions to ensure best chance of
finding any signs of life.
