missed or alternate assignments. Teachers will determine a reasonable timeline<br />

for completion.<br />

Students may not be suspended for more than five consecutive school days<br />

except when legal notice for a hearing of expulsion has been sent (According to<br />

State Statute 120.13). It is the student's responsibility to coordinate make-up<br />

work with teachers.<br />

PERSONAL SEARCHES<br />

Students are subject to searches of purses, backpacks, coats, and clothing<br />

when reasonable suspicion indicates that such a search may be necessary to<br />

protect the health and safety of that student or any other student or staff member.<br />

Such searches will be authorized by administration and carried out without<br />

exposing the student’s body. In the event of physical resistance by the student,<br />

law enforcement may be asked to assist with the search. If illegal materials are<br />

found as a result of any search, parents will be notified and requested to meet<br />

with an administrator to discuss the situation and any follow-up action taken.<br />

Students may be questioned by administration separate from law enforcement<br />

questioning. Police will be notified of any illegal material and the student may<br />

be referred for school discipline or legal action. <strong>School</strong> discipline may include<br />

detention, suspension, or expulsion.<br />

ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR<br />

The following guidelines for student behavior prohibit student activities that<br />

will endanger or threaten to endanger the safety of themselves or others, or that<br />

damages property. Illegal behavior occurring while in school, on school<br />

property, or during school- sponsored events is subject to disciplinary action and<br />

may be reported to the police.<br />

Fighting<br />

No student shall orally, in writing, or physically:<br />

(1) Participate in, encourage, or instigate any fighting at school or at any<br />

school function.<br />

(2) Threaten, coerce, or intimidate any other student or staff member.<br />

Students who become involved in this type of conduct are subject to<br />

detention, suspension and/or referral to the <strong>Plymouth</strong> Police Department<br />

depending upon the extent of their involvement.<br />

Possession and Use of Alcohol and Drugs<br />

No student will possess, use, or be under the influence of any illegal drugs,<br />

prescription, or over-the-counter drugs, alcohol, inhalants, look-alike, or drug<br />
