A few years ago, well known St. Vincent Medical doctor, journalist and
artist, Dr. Vivian Child published a series of articles featuring interesting
buildings and homes in and around Kingstown. She also made original
sketches of many of these buildings as they were.
The ravages of time, weather related disasters, fires and the developer’s
hammers have either destroyed or modified many of these structures.
They remain only in the memories of our elderly citizens or in very
limited historical archives.
Working with a publisher, Dr. Child made these articles available, and
along with the original sketches and an introduction by Prime Minister,
Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, they were published in the book, “City of Arches,
Memories of an Island Capital”. The book was released during “Heritage
Month”, this year.
In “City of Arches, Dr. Child has frozen moments in time, creating a
permanent record of the Kingstown that was, along with interesting and
sometimes humorous anecdotes about the early owners and residents.
“City of Arches” is available worldwide in bookstores and over the
internet through Amazon.com . Ben Harrison, President of Cybercom

portion of the proceeds being donated to our Association.
