Selection Criteria for Magnetic Stimulating Coils<br />

Large, or Small Coils<br />
– circular or figure of 8<br />
Large <strong>coils</strong> provide a high penetration depth, but are not<br />
very focused. The small <strong>coils</strong> are more focused, but have a<br />
relatively shallow penetration depth. Thus there is an inverse<br />
relation between penetration depth and focus.The <strong>coils</strong><br />
come in many sizes and shapes. The two most commonly<br />
used <strong>coils</strong> are the circular shaped coil and the butterfly<br />
shaped coil also known as the “figure of 8” coil.<br />
Circular or Parabolic Coils<br />
Butterfly Coils<br />
The Butterfly <strong>coils</strong> are more focused in comparison with the<br />
circular <strong>coils</strong>. The two windings are placed side-by-side or<br />
overlapping, enabling the coil to stimulate structures with<br />
focus right under its center. The butterfly coil is useful in<br />
focused stimulation.<br />

When applying the circular or parabolic coil, the induced<br />
current in the tissue occurs under the windings. A fairly large<br />
area of body tissue will be stimulated.<br />
The circular or parabolic coil may be positioned<br />
conveniently over many parts of the body, and usually serves<br />
well as a “general purpose coil”.<br />

F <strong>coils</strong> – Static cooled <strong>coils</strong><br />
Static cooled <strong>coils</strong>. To prevent fast overheating during use<br />
we developed the static cooled F-series of <strong>coils</strong>. The fluid<br />
absorbes dissipated energy thus enabling more stimulis.<br />

When the highest number of stimulations are required dynamic<br />
cooling is required.<br />
The cool unit in combination with the Cool-B65 coil are<br />
the solution if a long duration and high stimulation output is<br />
required.<br />

Placebo coil are intended for blind testing and have considerable<br />

MagVenture develops special <strong>coils</strong> for special purposes. Many<br />
<strong>coils</strong> have been developed. Examples MRi-B88 for use in MR<br />
scanners and the Twin Coil for Magnetic Seizure Therapy<br />
(together with the special <strong>MagPro</strong> MST stimulator)<br />

Besides our standard <strong>coils</strong> we manufactures custom designed<br />
<strong>coils</strong> based on specifications from our customers.<br />

General coil features.<br />
All <strong>coils</strong> are designed for use with Magpro R30, X100, R30<br />
with option, X100 with option and R100.<br />
Coils with build in power control in the coil handle and<br />
trigger button in the handle can also be used with a <strong>MagPro</strong><br />
Compact. (coil C-100, C-B60, RT 120-II and MMC-140-II)<br />
Coils without built in power control and trigger button<br />
requires the coil converter when connected to a <strong>MagPro</strong><br />
Compact.<br />
Additional accessories<br />
Accessories such as Remote control, MEP monitor, Cable for<br />
external trig, Flexible arm, Flight case for the <strong>MagPro</strong>, Mag-<br />
Probe, 110/230V power supply for the <strong>MagPro</strong> etc. are also<br />
