What’s Up and Coming in the Club

In June Oskar Kirsten will be
showing us the ins and outs of
using the Oneway Coring System.
I went over to Mentor Oskar’s
house with Sally and we got a
quick class on how to use it and
I think there are many others out
there who have often wondered
just how to use a coring system
and this is a great opportunity to
learn.
July
Now July is a special month
for us in San Diego. We will be
having Graeme Priddle arriving
all the way from New Zealand
to give us the demo and 2
day class. He is heading up to
Orange County the weekend
after our so the class will be on
Sunday and Monday right after
the demo. He is going to conduct
a “Turn and Burn” class.
He walks us through the steps
to turn and them shows us many
different ways to embellish,
carve and burn a creative pattern
on the turning. He says it is a
perfect beginner to intermediate
class so let us know early if you
want in. Graeme’s web site has
many things that he specializes
in and also gives some examples
of what to expect in his classes.

August
Jack Boggio will be conducting
our August demo. He hails from
Fallbrook and started out as a
carver. He has since started turning
and he adds some beautiful
carving techniques to his turnings.

and see some of his work. He is
going to show us some interesting
Christmas Ornaments early
enough we might actually get
them done before Christmas.
Well maybe not me but some of
you should have them mastered
by then. He will show us how he
adds some simple (so he says)
carvings to the center of his
ornaments. I am looking forward
to seeing how he accomplishes
the holes to see inside the ornaments.
And I don’t mean he
makes a funnel like I make.
September
September will be our Tools and
Techniques demo. This is where
you get to try out a new technique
and learn from out Mentors.
We will have stations set up
both inside and outside (if it’s
not raining) to allow you some
hands-on training. You can try
out a new tool or learn how to
use a bottom of the bowl gouge.
It’s all up to you. We have the
stations set up and you take your
pick.
Our club has lots of opportunity
to learn how to create something
new or just increase your skills
in you hobby of choice. Come
on down to the meeting and see
what you can do with the knowledge.
