1. PURPOSE<br />
This policy provides guidelines on how to deal with farewell functions of employees leaving<br />
the employ of <strong>Intsika</strong> <strong>Yethu</strong> <strong>Municipality</strong>. It provides for the objectives of the policy as well<br />
the funding of the farewell functions.<br />
2. IMPORTANT PRINCIPLES ON WHICH THE POLICY IS FOUNDED<br />
a. Farewell functions must not disrupt the daily activities if held on the municipal<br />
premises;<br />
b. Functions are determined by the rank/position of the person leaving;<br />
c. The leaving person must have been in the employ of the municipality for at least<br />
a year to qualify for a farewell function;<br />
d. The affected department is responsible for the farewell of employees below the<br />
Section 57 manager;<br />
e. Expenditure incurred for the farewell function of Section 57 Managers, and the<br />
Municipal Manager shall be defrayed in full from the municipality’s<br />
entertainment budget;<br />
f. Door-to-door contributions can be collected from the colleagues and interested<br />
parties;<br />
g. Leaving employees may also contribute towards their own farewell;<br />
h. Negotiations must be made with the head of the affected department regarding<br />
the time allocated for employees to attend the farewell function.<br />
3. THE ROLE OF CORPORATE SERVICES<br />
To ensure that all employees understand the contents and application of the farewell<br />
functions policy.<br />
4. THE ROLE OF THE MANAGER<br />
o All managers and supervisors are responsible for the enforcement of the<br />
Farewell Functions <strong>Policy</strong> as in the case of other municipal policies, rules and<br />
directives;<br />
o Nominate officials who shall be responsible for such arrangements;<br />
o Give guidance with regard to the time to be granted to employees to attend the<br />
farewell function<br />
5. ADOPTION AND APPROVAL OF SMOKING POLICY BY COUNCIL<br />
This policy is adopted and approved by the full Council of <strong>Intsika</strong> <strong>Yethu</strong> <strong>Municipality</strong> for<br />
implementation.<br />
