Please keep these important details in mind as you prepare.
Grade 7 Academics: January 8-11
Grade 8 Academics: January 3, 4, 7
High School Classes: January 3-4, 8-11
• Classes start at 8:00 a.m. and end at
2:45 p.m. each day.
• Lunch will be served daily in the cafeteria.
• SAS will be enforced. Students may wear Friday Spirit Wear each day.
• Students will follow normal bus schedules.
• Snow days, if any, will be announced through usual means.
• Homework is not generally assigned for J-term classes.
• The Library will not be open after classes are dismissed.
• High School students will receive an email from their J-term teachers or trip
leaders before Christmas vacation. These messages will include class goals,
locations, and needed supplies. Please encourage your students to check
their CVCA email for these important messages.
• Junior High students have already received their J-term packets.

Online Re-Enrollment
When second semester begins, we will begin re-enrollment of current students for the 2013-2014 school year.
All current students must confirm
their plans for the next school year
by re-enrolling via ParentsWeb.
Each family will receive a detailed
re-enrollment packet in the mail
the week of January 16. The packet
will also include Financial Aid
information for 2013-2014. Please
look for it!
Parents will re-enroll their students
online using the Enrollment/ Reenrollment
button in the
ParentsWeb Family Information
screen. Parents who may need additional
assistance with online reenrollment,
or who do not have

internet access, can request assistance
from the Admissions Office.
When you re-enroll your students,
you will need to:
• Verify your student’s demographic,
medical, and financial information
in ParentsWeb.
• Pay your re-enrollment fee online
in ParentsWeb by automatic
funds transfer or by debit or credit
card. A nominal transaction fee
will be charged for this service
($.85 for auto funds transfers or
$4.65 for Mastercard, American
Express, or Discover. Visa cannot
be used.)
• Set up your tuition payment plan
using FACTS management online
process. A $38 financing fee is
charged for tuition payment contracts
only if you choose not to
pay in full. (All students in the
same family can be included in
the same contract).
• CVCA does not require a tuition
deposit.
• No student is re-enrolled until
their re-enrollment fee is paid.

CVCA Entrance/
Scholarship Exams
Scheduled
Students interested in applying for
admission to CVCA will want to
register for an entrance exam. The
next exams are scheduled for
December 8 and March 2 at 9:00
a.m. A number of academic scholarships
will be awarded in two
rounds on February 1 and April 1
to new 7th, 8th, and 9th grade
applicants for admission whose
entrance exam results place them at
or near the top of the applicant
pool. Letters notifying the scholarship
finalists of their status will be
mailed in early January and mid-
March. You may register a student
for the exam online at

entrance_exam_reg or call the
CVCA Admissions Office at 330-
929-0575, ext. 216.
Currently enrolled students are not
eligible for these scholarships.
College Financial
Aid Meeting
A College Financial Aid meeting
will be held in the CVCA Anne Tell
Chapel on Thursday evening,
January 17 at 6:30. Although this
meeting is primarily for parents of
seniors, any parents of juniors are
welcome to attend even though
their students are a year away from
the process.
The main focus will be on the
FAFSA form (Free Application for
Federal Student Aid), which should
be filed to the government in
February (when tax information is
complete). Parents will also learn
about information on other student
financial aid that many people are
not aware of.

Planning in Library
Recently, a parent told the CVCA
Library staff about classes he had
begun attending. Preparing for a
new vocation, this parent had
become a student once again. For
parents changing occupations or
students considering their future
careers, the Learning Express Library
can provide valuable resources.
This excellent database is available
FREE through www.infohio.org.
All users must register so that
Learning Express Library (LEE) can
provide career-readiness tests, college
preparatory tests, and tutorials.
LEE will record participants’
progress for them. The results
remain private while offering students
helpful learning tools. Go to
the Infohio website and click on
“Core Collection” to find
“Learning Express Library” in small
print on the left of the page. This
great resource can help students
prepare for the next steps in their
college or career choices.

CVCA Students Recognized for Outstanding Academic
National Merit Scholarship
Commended Students
Three CVCA seniors have been
named Commended Students in
the 2013 National Merit
Scholarship Program. A letter of
commendation from the school and
National Merit Scholarship
Corporation (NMSC), which conducts
the program, will be presented
to these scholastically talented
seniors: Scott Calo, Nathan Wesley,
and Hannah Wright.
About 34,000 Commended
Students throughout the nation are
being recognized for their exceptional
academic promise. Although
they will not continue in the 2013
competition for National Merit
Scholarships, Commended
Students
placed among
the top five
percent of
more than 1.5
million students
who
entered the
2013 competition
by taking the 2011
Preliminary SAT/National Merit
Scholarship Qualifying Test.
“The young men and women being
named Commended Students have
demonstrated outstanding potential
for academic success,” commented a
NMSC spokesperson. “These students

Fine Arts News
On Thursday November 15, five
CVCA junior high choir students
traveled to The College of Wooster
to sing with the OMEA Junior
High Honors Choir. They were
chosen from over 300 names submitted
from private and public
schools all over northeast Ohio. The
students rehearsed for over six hours
on Thursday and then presented
their concert on Friday night for
parents and guests. They sang eight
songs, (one in
Latin) and
spent extra
class time and
their own
practice time
to prepare for
this event.
Congratulations to Victoria
Dickson, Austin Eck, Terrill Hicks,
Lilly Mathes, and Sydney Nikodem
for their hard work and for sharing
their God-given talents with others.
Choir Fundraiser
Our annual Spaghetti Dinner will
be held Friday January 25 in the
cafeteria. Tickets may be purchased
from any choir member for $8 presale.

Your Role in the 2013 Auction
We have already been contacted by many of you with contributions of time
and donations. If you have not done so already, consider becoming a part of
the CVCA Auction 2013: Fabulous 50’s and see how
much fun it can be to help in this rewarding endeavor!
The proceeds of the 14th annual auction will go to
our Annual Fund for the purpose of keeping
tuition at CVCA as affordable as possible. The
auction weekend starts with the Auction Preview
on Friday, March 22, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. This is a
great time to plan your strategy, spend time viewing
the items, and record bids for the actual auction on
Saturday, March 23. The gala evening of both live
and silent auctions is a great time of fellowship, dining, and fun!
In addition to our live event, this year we will introduce an online component
to the auction, which will offer several online auctions before, during, and after
the live gala evening. This will be a great opportunity for those who cannot
attend the auction at school.
We are asking for your help in supporting this very important endeavor to
ensure a Christian education for all students who desire one. You can use the
following donation ideas to help make this event successful:
• Vacation condo or bed and breakfast getaways
• Golf packages
• Sporting event or theater tickets
• Tickets to a show (Mike Huckabee, Dr. Oz, etc.)
• A home dinner party prepared by a chef (or a very good cook!)
• New or antique home furnishings
• A large donation combined from several contributors
• Ask someone outside the immediate CVCA family to attend or donate

Holiday Service Opportunities
A Show of Support
Enjoy an evening of music while
supporting a local family in need.
A concert has been planned to provide
support for the extended family
of Mr. Steve Hyatt, CVCA teacher
and coach. Mr. Hyatt’s brother,
Kevin, was in a tragic accident in
2003 which left him with a traumatic
brain injury. He has since been
living with his parents, Fred and
Cathy Hyatt as he slowly recovers.
The Hyatts have also had their own
medical issues: Mr. Hyatt has been
living with Parkinson’s disease for
the past 15 years, and Mrs. Hyatt is
in need of a hip replacement.
The Cuyahoga Falls High School
stage crew and Student Council
will present The Blue Ticks in
concert at the Cuyahoga Falls
High School Auditorium
December 8 at 7:00 p.m. Doors
open at 6:00 p.m. The event will
feature the rockin’ country music of
The Blue Ticks as well as concession
sales and a basket raffle. Tickets are
$5 (available at the CFHS Activities
Office or at the door). Proceeds will
benefit the Hyatt family.

Student Council Leads CVCA in
New Christmas Outreach Ministry
Student Council is excited to announce that CVCA has adopted Urban
Vision as the 2012 Christmas outreach project. Urban Vision was founded in
1992 by CVCA alumna Jodi Mathews ’86. She, her husband Rodney and
their sons live in the community they serve in North Akron.
Just as Christ desires to see all of His children prosper, so Urban Vision desires
to develop North Akron’s youth into godly leaders of their community. Urban
Vision approaches children holistically and prayerfully, modeling a love for
God, a love for others, and a love for their community. Where there is no
vision the people perish. Proverbs 29:18
One of the Christian Community Development Principles Urban Vision follows
is Redistribution. They seeks to redistribute resources given by the body of
Christ to individuals within the community, empowering them with the tools
and gifts needed to become the people God intended (Philippians 4: 18-19).
CVCA has committed to support Urban Vision’s Christmas with Dignity
Store. Children and their families earn “Urban Vision bucks” throughout the
year by volunteering and participating in projects and learning programs. On
Saturday, December 15, the Christmas with Dignity Store will offer an
extensive inventory including personal care items, household items, gifts, and
toys for the children and families to purchase with their Urban Vision bucks.
Urban Vision has provided a list of a wide variety of needed items. CVCA’s
goal is to have every student commit to bring in one item on Thursday,
December 6 to their Connections group. Student Council will collect the
donations and host a Christmas party for students.
Student Council is humbled by the opportunity to lead CVCA in the collection
of items for the Christmas with Dignity Store. Visit Urban Vision’s website

A Holiday Head Start
If you get weighed down with the hustle and bustle this Christmas season,
why not consider taking some time out to serve others The holidays are a
great time to prayerfully look for service opportunities in your community.
Many organizations from soup kitchens to church outreach programs would
welcome your help! Keep in mind that any hours students serve during the
holidays can be used for the service expectation requirement in their Bible
classes for spring semester. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Mrs. Holmes and Mrs.
Oster are offering to teach
young ladies going on the
D.R. mission trip how to
sew a simple skirt to wear
while on the trip and then
leave it there upon returning
home. The group will
also make skirts in muchneeded
smaller sizes for
the young girls in the
Dominican.
Meetings will be on
Tuesdays after Christmas
break in Room 240, from
3:30 to 5:00 p.m. Please
bring 1-1/2 yards of cotton
fabric, and approximately 1
yard (1/2 to ¾ inch) elastic
for the waist band.
Anyone willing to donate
extra fabric, elastic, or
thread for skirts for the
younger girls may drop
these supplies off at the
Welcome Center. (Please
clearly label as D.R. Skirts.)
It’s Hockey Season!
Seniors Lead the Way for the Royals Hockey Team
The CVCA Royals hockey team is looking forward to moving to the highly competitive
White Division of the Greater Cleveland Hockey League for the 2012-2013
hockey season. “Moving to the White Division is like moving up from Division III to
Division II in soccer or football for our hockey team. It’ll be the toughest competition
we’ve played against in my five years at CVCA,” said Coach Fairchild. The players
welcome the move and are excited for the challenge.
A strong group of seniors will lead the team this year. Goaltender Jonah Savitt follows
an outstanding junior year, in which he posted a 90% save percentage and was named
to the All-Division team. Senior defensemen Zach Longo and Jordan Beard help
anchor the Royals defense, and Aaron Corpora and Parker Batista will bring added
depth at the forward position. The senior forward line of Will Anderson, Mark
Sunde, and Luke Sunde look to follow their record-breaking season. Will Anderson
recorded a career-high 55 points, while line mate Mark Sunde broke the previous
school record with 120 points on the season. Mark’s 66 assists were just two assists shy
of the Ohio high school single-season record of 68. Mark currently has recorded 147
career assists, only 20 assists shy of the all-time Ohio high school record of 167 assists
in a career. Senior Luke Sunde set a new single-season Ohio high school record for
points in a season with his 136-point effort as a junior. Luke also looks to build on his
Ohio high school record-setting 172 career goals. Luke received the Greater Cleveland
High School Hockey League Player of the Year recognition last season, and both
Mark and Luke Sunde were named to the All-League and All-Division Teams.
Above all their records, these seniors are looking to close their hockey careers at
CVCA by honoring the Lord and setting an example on and off the ice for all
current and future CVCA hockey players to follow.

held at 6:00 p.m. and the men’s at 7:00 p.m. All alumni,
parents, and CVCA basketball fans are invited to

Winter Awards Night
Parents and athletes of winter sports teams should plan
to attend the final event of the season.

an individual awards night.

SKI CLUB: It’s Not Too Late!
Have you thought about learning to ski or snowboard Consider
joining Ski Club! Members of Ski Club ski and snowboard at
Brandywine Ski Resort every Monday starting in January until the
resort closes in March. Students leave CVCA by bus at 3:45 p.m. and
return to CVCA about 8:20 p.m. The cost is $202.90 with rental
equipment and $139.00 without. This fee includes five lessons and a
Club Card. In addition, a $25.00 bus fee covers the whole season.

2012-2013 KINGDOM FUND
Development Activities
Kingdom Fund
Throughout its 45-year history, Cuyahoga
Valley Christian Academy has been
extremely blessed by hundreds of alumni,
parents, grandparents, and friends who
have demonstrated their support through
regular giving. Our needs continue as
CVCA balances the costs of excellence and
the need for accessibility and affordability.
Tuition = 87%
As has always been the case at CVCA, the cost of
a Christ-centered education is much more than the
income generated from tuition. This year, tuition
income is equal to just 87% of the total income of the
school. The differential between tuition income and total
costs for the Christ-centered education the school provides is
$1,940 per student. In an effort to cover those costs, CVCA has
activities such as the annual auction, golf outing, and other income-producing
efforts. In addition, many friends directly support student tuition assistance
with gifts of love.
This year the KINGDOM FUND, which helps fill the gap between costs and tuition, has a goal of $250,000. This fund is supported
by gifts from the CVCA family – alumni, faculty and staff, parents, grandparents, and friends of the school – and benefits
every current family and student.

Please join us in making this year’s auction, Fabulous 50’s,
a success. Consider donating an item, trip, or service to this great
fundraiser. Below are some donation ideas, but feel free to use your
imagination and be creative. We appreciate all of your ideas!
The donation deadline is February 7, 2013. If you have questions,

Spend a few hours preparing yourself to do your best on an upcoming SAT test
Learn: Timing tips
Verbal reasoning techniques
A variety of approaches to math problems
Practice Test: Assess your strengths and weaknesses prior to testing
Although instruction is directed towards the SAT test, students planning to take
the ACT or PSAT will benefit from these classes.
