ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Minutes for September 28, 2010
In Attendance: Anna Aresta, Nimmi Bangert, Julie Brow, Cathy Derksen, Carla Easton, Ann Ford,
Elizabeth Hittrich, Kristie Hatzisauv, Laurie Sutterlin, Olivia Price-Huff, Liz Vales,

2009/10 Executive: Lila de Bruin, Diane Hsiung, Janice Hight, Laura White
Meeting called to order at 7:00
Chairpersons Welcome
Special guests: Assistant Superintendant Garnet Ayers, Delta Police Inspector Chandra and
Constable Hilliard
- Special report on the death of Laura Szendrei
- Explanation of large police presence and estimated time frame for current
disruptions
- Summary of School District and police response to the homicide
- Concern with number of false rumours circulating on Facebook
- Any person with information, no matter how small it may seem, is encouraged to
contact police. Inspector Chandra can be reached at 604-312-6279 and Constable
Hilliard is available on First Class and through the Principal and Delta Police.
Move to accept AGM Meeting Agenda as presented (Appendix 1)
Motion to accept PAC meeting minutes from May 25, 2010 as presented –
Motioned by Janice H. and 2 nd by Lila dB. – Approved
1) Correspondence and Reports:
i) Thank you cards from Kyle Nairn and Jessie Wieler, the students who received PAC
scholarships - received and read
ii) Other correspondence mostly fundraiser information
Introduction to PAC Elections – all positions open to interested members –descriptions of
Executive positions presented; all positions filled by acclamation:
Sands PAC Executive for 2010/2011 –
President – Laura White (year 1)
Vice President – Diane Hsiung (year 1)
Treasurer – Nimmi Bangert (year 1)
Secretary – Ann Ford (year 1)
DPAC – Open
EP Executive Rep – Olivia Price-Huff
Elections for SPC (School Planning Council) held off pending decision by Delta School
district.

2) Principals Report: Refer to Appendix 2
3) Treasurers Report: Refer to Appendix 3
- Gaming money back to $20/student from the horrible low of $10/student last year
- Based on student population we expect about $15,000 rather than the $16,000
listed on the financial statement
- Money not yet in our account but we have been approved
- Nimmi Bangert, newly elected Treasurer and Laura White, newly elected
President will go to the bank to have their signatures added to the account; Diane
Hsiung remains on the account.
4) DPAC: Minutes of past meetings are now available on-line
- Motion to spend $75 to retain membership in BCCPAC: motioned by Carla E.
and 2 nd by Ann F.
5) SPC:

6) EP: the only thing that needs to be done is change the water – Mark Woloshen will attend the
next PAC meeting to address questions regarding what is in the bin and what needs to be done
each year along with timeframes. Olivia Price–Huff volunteered to be EP Executive rep. (along
with Lila de Bruin)
7) Dry Grad:
New Business:
- Discussion about the focus of Dry Grad and questions about the first meeting for
volunteers.
- Laura W. will find out from past dry grad chair who is looking after the event this
year and when the first meeting is scheduled.
- Sands Grad Liaison may be Laura W. or Carla E. depending on what positions
are open and available on the committee.
Number of Sands PAC General meetings up for discussion: future General meetings of the Sands
PAC for this school year will be scheduled October, November, January, February, April and, only
if necessary, in May
The Executive should meet prior to the next General meeting to discuss budget issues and
distribution of gaming money as requested by the Sands staff. Laura W. to schedule.
