ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - Minutes for <strong>Sept</strong>ember 28, 20<strong>10</strong><br />

In Attendance: Anna Aresta, Nimmi Bangert, Julie Brow, Cathy Derksen, Carla Easton, Ann Ford,<br />

Elizabeth Hittrich, Kristie Hatzisauv, Laurie Sutterlin, Olivia Price-Huff, Liz Vales,<br />

and Jeanette Beaulieu (Principal)<br />

2009/<strong>10</strong> Executive: Lila de Bruin, Diane Hsiung, Janice Hight, Laura White<br />

Meeting called to order at 7:00<br />

Chairpersons Welcome<br />

<br />

Special guests: Assistant Superintendant Garnet Ayers, Delta Police Inspector Chandra and<br />

Constable Hilliard<br />

- Special report on the death of Laura Szendrei<br />

- Explanation of large police presence and estimated time frame for current<br />

disruptions<br />

- Summary of School District and police response to the homicide<br />

- Concern with number of false rumours circulating on Facebook<br />

- Any person with information, no matter how small it may seem, is encouraged to<br />

contact police. Inspector Chandra can be reached at 604-312-6279 and Constable<br />

Hilliard is available on First Class and through the Principal and Delta Police.<br />

Move to accept <strong>AGM</strong> Meeting Agenda as presented (Appendix 1)<br />

Motion to accept PAC meeting minutes from May 25, 20<strong>10</strong> as presented –<br />

Motioned by Janice H. and 2 nd by Lila dB. – Approved<br />

1) Correspondence and Reports:<br />

i) Thank you cards from Kyle Nairn and Jessie Wieler, the students who received PAC<br />

scholarships - received and read<br />

ii) Other correspondence mostly fundraiser information<br />

Introduction to PAC Elections – all positions open to interested members –descriptions of<br />

Executive positions presented; all positions filled by acclamation:<br />

Sands PAC Executive for 20<strong>10</strong>/2011 –<br />

President – Laura White (year 1)<br />

Vice President – Diane Hsiung (year 1)<br />

Treasurer – Nimmi Bangert (year 1)<br />

Secretary – Ann Ford (year 1)<br />

DPAC – Open<br />

EP Executive Rep – Olivia Price-Huff<br />

Elections for SPC (School Planning Council) held off pending decision by Delta School<br />

district.


2) Principals Report: Refer to Appendix 2<br />

3) Treasurers Report: Refer to Appendix 3<br />

- Gaming money back to $20/student from the horrible low of $<strong>10</strong>/student last year<br />

- Based on student population we expect about $15,000 rather than the $16,000<br />

listed on the financial statement<br />

- Money not yet in our account but we have been approved<br />

- Nimmi Bangert, newly elected Treasurer and Laura White, newly elected<br />

President will go to the bank to have their signatures added to the account; Diane<br />

Hsiung remains on the account.<br />

4) DPAC: Minutes of past meetings are now available on-line<br />

- Motion to spend $75 to retain membership in BCCPAC: motioned by Carla E.<br />

and 2 nd by Ann F.<br />

5) SPC:<br />

Under review<br />

6) EP: the only thing that needs to be done is change the water – Mark Woloshen will attend the<br />

next PAC meeting to address questions regarding what is in the bin and what needs to be done<br />

each year along with timeframes. Olivia Price–Huff volunteered to be EP Executive rep. (along<br />

with Lila de Bruin)<br />

7) Dry Grad:<br />

New Business:<br />

- Discussion about the focus of Dry Grad and questions about the first meeting for<br />

volunteers.<br />

- Laura W. will find out from past dry grad chair who is looking after the event this<br />

year and when the first meeting is scheduled.<br />

- Sands Grad Liaison may be Laura W. or Carla E. depending on what positions<br />

are open and available on the committee.<br />

Number of Sands PAC General meetings up for discussion: future General meetings of the Sands<br />

PAC for this school year will be scheduled October, November, January, February, April and, only<br />

if necessary, in May<br />

The Executive should meet prior to the next General meeting to discuss budget issues and<br />

distribution of gaming money as requested by the Sands staff. Laura W. to schedule.<br />
