Principals Report – Mr Kerry Kurtz
All the very best to our athletes who are competing at the Zone Athletics
Carnival today at Golland Fields. Miss Ivimey and Mrs Alcorn are our officials
at the carnival. We have many students competing in various track and field
events.
The staff enjoyed a retirement dinner for Mrs Pam Tanner at the Willow Tree
Bistro last Saturday night. Mrs Tanner (Caterer) had been a Teacher and
Assistant Principal for many years.
It has come to my attention that parents have been using the driveway behind
Collarene to collect students. This is extremely dangerous as this often
happens during break time when children are playing in the area. Please don't
use this driveway during school time.
Hierarchy of behaviours
As you know Quirindi Public School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
school. In this week’s newsletter we have published the agreed hierarchy of
behaviours and the management of unacceptable behaviours at our school.

Cyber bullying - prevention tips for parents
The statistics around cyber bullying are sketchy, mainly because it often goes
unreported. What we do know is that the likelihood of children being bullied
online or over the phone increases as they get older and use technology more
frequently.

Positive Behaviour for Learning
This week’s lesson is on
safety.
You can talk about road,
water and sun safety
with your family.
Kindergarten and Year 1 had a fun filled
session this week with some train drivers from
Pacific National. They spoke to the children all
about train and crossing safety.
So You Think You Can Spell
The Premier’s Spelling Bee is a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. All
students in Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 are welcome to enter the school competition. It will be held at 2pm on Thursday
29 August 2013 in the hall.
Students compete in rounds to spell words correctly, in the divisions of Junior (Years 3 & 4) and Senior (Years
5 & 6). Two finalists from each division will then qualify for the regional finals in Tamworth on Wednesday 16
September 2013. The winners of the regional final will attend the state finals in Sydney in November.
Practice lists are available from the NSW Arts Unit website - see Ms Cherrington or Mrs Davis for the
download password. Practices are held in the Information Centre for interested students.

Kindergarten 2014
Dates to remember –
Thursday 5 September 2013- a walk around the school with the Principal for
parents and students beginning at 10.30am followed by a morning tea.
Tuesday 22 October 2013 - a kinder information morning at 10.20am followed
by morning tea for the parents and a buddy picnic for the children.
Tuesday 5 November 2013 - our Kinder Ready program begins each Tuesday
and Thursday for three weeks.

Musica Viva is coming to Quirindi Public School
Thanks to a very generous
private donation, Zeeko
ensemble will be performing
Earth, Wind and Sea at
our school on Tuesday 10
September 2013 at 1:30pm.
All of our students will have
the privilege of this musical
experience free of charge.
Normally the cost would be
$7.50 per student.
We will hear music inspired
by creatures like
butterflies, frogs and
chickens.
We will help Zeeko create soundscapes of the natural environment and explore music from different places
such as Madagascar and South America. This is a valuable opportunity and we are sincerely appreciative of
our donor’s kindness.
ASCA news
It is wonderful to hear so many great presentations being developed for the ASCA exams. I have been
entertained and educated in areas from "Chloe's Dog Training School" to "How to Shoe a Horse!" If your
child is having any difficulties with their presentation please remind them to
talk to their class teacher or see me at school.
There will be an after school session for interested students and parents next
Thursday, 22 August 2013 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in the Library.

Multi-Cultural Public Speaking
Best wishes to Isabella Pursehouse who is representing our District at the
Regional Finals of the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition in Armidale on
Monday, 19 August 2013. Bella has put a lot of time and effort into this
competition and we are very proud to have her as our ambassador!
