Deborah Egekvist, Associate Professor of Flute, has been on the faculty of UNCG since 1985.
She earned the BM from Lawrence University, the MM at the Eastman School of Music,
and the DM at Florida State University. Her teachers included Charles DeLaney, Joseph
Mariano, James Pappoutsakis, Emil Opava, and Fred Schroeder. She has taught on the
faculties of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, at the University of
Oklahoma at Norman. Active as a soloist and chamber musician, Egekvist has performed
throughout the United States, Germany, Canada, and the Asian South Pacific. She has
appeared as soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, the Green Bay Symphony, the West
Virginia Symphonette, the Aurora Colorado Symphony, and the Huntington Chamber
Orchestra. She has also performed as principal flute of the Huntington Chamber
Egekvist made her New York debut at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. She was Artist-in-
Residence for six years at both the Bay View Summer Music Festival and the Oklahoma
Lit
Concerts and Collage concerts, with the Elena Eckemoff Ensemble, and in many other solo
and chamber music venues at UNCG and throughout the state. She has been a clinician
for Jupiter flutes. Besides performing, she is working towards her teaching certification of
the Alexander Technique.
Nancy Davis, a much sought-after accompanist, is known for offering a varied palette of
colors and flare. Performing an average of 50 concerts a year, she has been heard on
WFMT Radio in Chicago; in Wooster, Ohio (First Friday series); in New York recitals with
Phyllis Tektonidis and Edward Bach (with whom she has released two CDs). Mrs. Davis has
collaborated with many upcoming young protégés in competitions such as the
International Trombone Festival; the IMA/HOGG National Young Artists Competition;
the National Trumpet Competition; NATS; and MTNA National. As well, she served as
one of the official accompanists for the 2003 International Double Reed Society
Conference. Davis is actively involved in premieres of new music on a regular basis
including works by Vagn Holmboe, Eddie Bass, David Gillingham, George Kiorpes, and
Joyce Suskind. She has participated in numerous masterclasses, including Martin Katz,
Raaf Hekkema, and Eugene Rousseau. Mrs. Davis is one half of the duo piano team,
Music By Two, with pianist Sharon Johnson. The duo has appeared in recitals at The
Library of Congress, the University of Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Virginia, and
Sonata for Two Pianos,
including a broadcast premiere on WFMT in Chicago (PianoForte Foundation Salon
Series). Music By Two is under artist management with the Scott Management Agency
(www.scottmanagementagency.net). Mrs. Davis received both the Bachelor of Music and
the Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina-
Greensboro. Her teachers have included Marvin Blickenstaff and George Kiorpes. She
has served as Musical Director of the Young Artists Opera Theater, and on the faculties of
Greensboro College, Elon University, and UNC-Greensboro. Davis is a 25 year veteran
faculty member of the UNC-Greensboro Summer Music Camp.
