#89 • TE JARED COOK
Tight end Jared Cook enjoyed a breakthrough
season in 2011, his third NFL campaign.
Cook played in all 16 games (five starts) in 2011
and set career highs in every receiving category, totaling
759 yards and three touchdowns on 49 receptions.
He ranked third on the team in receptions and
second in receiving yards. His yardage total also
ranked second in franchise history by a tight end,
finishing a close second behind Frank Wycheck’s 768 yards in 1998.
Following a rookie season in which he posted nine receptions for 74
yards, he enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign in 2010 with 29 receptions
for 361 yards and a touchdown. He flourished in the second half of the
2010 season, tying for 10th among NFL tight ends with 26 catches in the
final eight games.
Widely considered one of the top playmakers at his position coming
out of college, the Titans thought highly enough of him that they traded a
2010 second-round draft choice to the New England Patriots to acquire him
in the third round (89th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.
In a three-year career at South Carolina, Cook caught 73 passes for
1,107 yards (15.2 avg.) and seven touchdowns. In his final season with the
Gamecocks, he earned first-team All-SEC honors.
2012 Highlights:
including a 35-yard catch on the team’s first offensive snap of the
third quarter.
‣ ¾ Against Detroit (9/23), notched four receptions for 77 yards and a
touchdown before leaving the game in the second quarter with a shoulder
injury. In the second quarter, he recorded the second-longest catch of his
career and scored his fifth career touchdown on a 61-yard pass from Jake
Locker.
‣ ¾ At Houston (9/30), caught three passes for 36 yards, including a long
of 25. Recorded his 100th career catch on a nine-yard pass from Matt Hasselbeck
in the third quarter.
‣ ¾ At Minnesota (10/7), posted five receptions for 37 yards, including a
10-yard touchdown reception from Matt Hasselbeck in the fourth quarter.
‣ ¾ Against Pittsburgh (10/11), had four receptions for 54 yards and provided
one of the contest’s most crucial plays. With 39 seconds remaining in
the fourth quarter and the Titans facing a third-and-five at the 50-yard line,
he caught a pass over the middle and raced 25 yards to help set up the
game-winning field goal two plays later. His heroics came on a day when
his mother, Yulinda Cook, served as the honorary 12th Titan as a representative
of breast cancer survivors.
