Wide receiver Nate Washington is in his
eighth NFL season in 2012 and has emerged as one
of Tennessee’s offensive leaders.
Washington enjoyed the best season of his
career in 2011, his third campaign with the Titans.
He led the team and set new career highs with 74
receptions, 1,023 receiving yards and seven receiving
touchdowns. He also recorded a rushing touchdown.
With his first career 1,000-yard season, Washington became the first
Titans player to reach the mark since Drew Bennett and Derrick Mason
each exceeded 1,000 yards in 2004.
Washington concluded the 2011 season with an active streak of 62
consecutive games with at least one reception, including all 48 games since
signing with the Titans in 2009 as an unrestricted free agent from the Pittsburgh
Steelers.
Since Washington arrived in Tennessee, no Titans player has had
more total receptions (163), receiving yards (2,279) and receiving touchdowns
(19) than Washington.
The 6-1, 177-pound receiver also has been remarkably durable. He
has recorded six consecutive campaigns in which he played in all 16 games.
He did so in 2011 despite a nagging ankle injury over the final month of the
season.
Washington appeared in 49 games with seven starts during his four
seasons in Pittsburgh, where he collected 104 receptions for 1,705 yards
and 12 touchdowns. He led the Steelers in yards per catch in two of his last
three seasons there.
Originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent from Tiffin
University in 2005, he enjoyed a breakout season in 2006 when he led the
AFC with a 17.8-yard per reception average.
2012 Highlights:
‣ ¾ Against New England (9/9), totaled 53 yards and a touchdown on two
receptions. He caught a 24-yard pass on fourth and one in the first quarter,
and on the play, he moved past 4,000 career receiving yards. Early in the
third quarter, he and Jake Locker connected on a 29-yard touchdown pass.
‣ ¾ At San Diego (9/16), posted a pair of receptions for 20 yards despite
missing the entire week of practice with a leg injury.
‣ ¾ Against Detroit (9/23), played in his 100th career regular-season
game and totaled three receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. He re-
corded his fifth career 100-yard game. His 71-yard touchdown reception
equaled his career long, set at San Diego on Oct. 31, 2010.
‣ ¾ At Houston (9/30), caught three passes for 43 yards, including a long
of 25.
‣ ¾ At Minnesota (10/7), posted four receptions for 46 yards. His first
reception of 17 yards put him into a tie with Haywood Jeffires for the fourthlongest
reception streak in franchise history.
‣ ¾ Against Pittsburgh (10/11), totaled three receptions for 57 yards.
With a 19-yard catch on the first offensive snap of the game, he extended
his streak to 68 games with a reception, including all 54 contests with the Titans.
His 54-game streak moved ahead of Haywood Jeffires (53) for fourth
in franchise history.
‣ ¾ At Buffalo (10/21), led the team with six receptions for 43 yards. On
the game-winning series late in the fourth quarter, he caught a 19-yard pass
and a 15-yard touchdown pass from Matt Hasselbeck. The touchdown
came on fourth-and-nine with 1:03 remaining on the clock.
‣ ¾ Against Indianapolis (10/28), led the Titans with five receptions and
69 receiving yards, including a long reception of 29 yards.
‣ ¾ Against Chicago (11/4), posted two receptions for 35 yards and a
touchdown. He recorded his fourth touchdown reception of 2012, hauling
in a 30-yard pass from Matt Hasselbeck in the third quarter. His 23rd touchdown
catch as a member of the Titans surpassed Charley Frazier (22) for
sole possession of 10th place on the team’s all-time receiving touchdowns
list.
‣ ¾ At Miami (11/11), caught one pass for five yards.
‣ ¾ At Jacksonville (11/25), totaled four receptions for a team-high 54
yards, including a long of 21 yards. With a six-yard catch in the fourth quarter,
he reached the 300-reception mark for his career.
‣ ¾ Against Houston (12/2), led the team in receiving yards for the fifth
time in 2012, totaling three catches for 96 yards. In the fourth quarter, he
recorded a 49-yard reception, his second-longest catch of the season (71
yards against Detroit on Sept. 23).
‣ ¾ At Indianapolis (12/9), caught one pass for 15 yards.
‣ ¾ Against the New York Jets (12/17), led the team with four receptions
for 62 yards, including a 30-yard catch during the game’s opening series.
‣ ¾ At Green Bay (12/23), caught two passes for 15 yards. He became
the 13th player in franchise history to reach 3,000 career receiving yards
with the club.
