• The provision <strong>of</strong> a direct service to clients with a serious mental illness and substance use<br />

problems with a focus on developing and modelling good practice. This may be through<br />

providing a limited direct service and intensive support/consultation to case managers on<br />

specific cases<br />

The following table identifies <strong>the</strong> metropolitan team that <strong>the</strong> Rural Clinicians are attached to, area<br />

serviced and ‘host organisation’ (<strong>the</strong> area mental health service from which <strong>the</strong> clinician operates).<br />

The primary activities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rural dual diagnosis clinicians largely emulate <strong>the</strong> work <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> metropolitan<br />

teams. Although <strong>the</strong> numbers <strong>of</strong> organisations supported by rural clinicians are smaller than <strong>the</strong><br />

numbers <strong>of</strong> organisations supported in <strong>the</strong> metropolitan regions, <strong>the</strong> geographical area rural clinicians<br />

must cover is far greater, as shown on <strong>the</strong> following map.<br />
