~ The Legend ~
In 1536 in the dry and arid land of Southern Spain with little water and few crops a travelling bookseller-
Juan Ciudad- on his way from the coast to Gaucin came across a young boy on the rough dirt track with
no shoes. The boy had an aura about him and Juan Ciudad was moved to help him by giving him his own
sandals so that he would not cut his feet, but the boy refused. Juan said to the child ‘Precious child and
brother, if you do not choose to use my sandals I will take the books from my shoulders and carry you on
them instead as God gave me these to use well and that is a priceless gift’. He carried the child for a while
towards Gaucin and tired and thirsty on the way rested the boy under a tree. A spring of pure clear water
miraculously came out of the ground. Then, the young child surprised Juan Ciudad by calling him by his
name and suddenly disappeared in a cloud of smoke. The child bequeathed an image and a voice of
himself that became a guide for Juan to follow in his journey of life. The child became known as Santo
Niño and to this day the people of Gaucin annually celebrate this event at the Ermita founded in his
memory.
It is at this place, La Adefilla, that the Ermita De Santo Niño stands with a fountain dated 1536 from
which walkers and animals to this day can still drink. The Ermita De Santo Niño is at the front gate of:
~ Description and Access ~
Description
Hacienda Del Agua Divino sits in its own 38,400 square metres of rural and peaceful hills surrounded by Carob, Almond
and Olive trees with stunning views over valleys to the mountainous national park of Monte Crestellina in the Serrania De
Ronda and beyond to the Mediterranean sea, Gibraltar and the Rif mountains of Morocco.
The rising sun appears over the mountains and bathes the property all day until it sets in the evening against the backdrop of
the forests and hills leaving the hotel to cool in the early evening from the heat of the day.
The hotel is beautifully located below the local village of Gaucin, the classic unspoilt Pueblo Blanco being one of the famed
‘White Villages’ of Andalucía. The towns of Ronda, Estepona, Marbella, Jerez, Seville, Granada, Cordoba and many other
places of cultural and historical interest are only a short excursion distance away.
Access
By air to Malaga airport and 90 minutes by motorway and hard tarmac road to the front gate
By air to Gibraltar airport and 45 minutes by motorway and tarmac road to the front gate.
For the more adventurous trains run from Madrid to the Gaucin railway station at Colmenar with one or two changes taking
~ The Project ~
Milan Varmuza, the project developer and architect, has for the past twelve years lived
and worked in one of the most beautiful parts of Andalucía in Spain where he has
enjoyed a career covering the design and construction of hotels, restaurants and high
quality houses throughout the world.
Milan Varmuza found that there was a lack of luxury rural hotels catering for guests
seeking comfort, tranquillity and recreational country pursuits within the Andalucía
and Malaga region of Spain.
To this end he found and acquired the perfect location to put all his experiences and
abilities into action to develop a 38 bedroom luxury rural, wellness and retreat hotel. A
project for the site is now prepared and planning has been approved.
Milan Varmuza is now seeking some serious investment to become part of this project.
