In the eighteenth century, forty-seven samurai avenged the death of their master in a plot that would take over<br />
two years to complete. After succeeding in their mission, the masterless samurai-known as ronin-all committed<br />
ritual suicide. The story, which is a national legend, remains the most potent example of Japan's deeply rooted<br />
cultural imperative of honor, persistence, loyalty, and sacrifice.<br />
The historical event has inspired many writers and artists over the years and numerous fictionalized versions and<br />
adaptations have emerged. In The 47 Ronin, Sean Michael Wilson has created a historically factual portrait,<br />
enhanced by evocative and often lyrical drawings by Akiko Shimojima. While there are other depictions of the<br />
story in manga form, this version stands out as being the most accurate and most compelling. Wilson and<br />
Shimojima have made the characters nuanced and relatable.<br />

SEAN MICHAEL WILSON is a comic book writer who lives in Japan. He has had more than a dozen books published<br />
by US, UK, and Japanese publishers, and he often works with Japanese and Chinese artists on manga-style<br />
books, such as Hagakure and Yakuza Moon.<br />

Author Bio<br />
BARBARA PARRY raises sheep on her 220-acre Springdelle Farm in western Massachusetts. She and her husband,<br />
Michael, keep a flock of 77 sheep, goats, and llamas. Every year Barbara converts hundreds of pounds of her<br />
spring wool clip into high-quality yarn and handspinning fiber. She markets her yarns and fibers under her label<br />
Foxfire Fiber & Designs and has created a substantial presence, both online (www.foxfirefiber.com) and at major<br />
sheep and wool festivals throughout the Northeast. She has worked collaboratively with several well-known<br />
designers in the industry. Barbara's diverse background in fiber arts, sheep farming, and yarn production makes<br />
her a sought-after speaker for fiber retreats and guild presentations. Barbara regularly chronicles farm life on her<br />
blog, Sheep Gal: Notes from a Shelburne Shepherd (www.sheepgal.com). She is also the author of Teach<br />
