Women’s Educational<br />
Resource Center<br />
Located in Student Services Building<br />
C-2, on the Niceville Campus, the<br />
center provides additional career<br />
planning assistance for students,<br />
primarily women age 35 and older,<br />
who are returning to school because<br />
of divorce, separation, or the death of<br />
a spouse. The program assists students<br />
with education and training that will<br />
enable them to reenter the workforce<br />
with marketable skills. The program<br />
provides skills assessment, a support<br />
system, career information, and other<br />

Academic Success Center (ASC)<br />
Located in the North Mezzanine<br />
of Building E, Room 149, on the<br />
Niceville Campus, the ASC provides<br />
free learning support services for all<br />
NWFSC students. The ASC offers<br />
tutoring in many subjects, writing<br />
assistance, tutoring for learning<br />
disabled students and ESOL (English<br />
for Speakers of Other Languages)<br />
students, computer tutorials, a video<br />
library with audio media available in<br />
a variety of subjects, Internet access<br />
and computers for student use.<br />
Tutoring is on a one-on-one basis and<br />
is FREE for all registered students.<br />
Tutoring is available on a walk-in basis;<br />
however, students are encouraged<br />
to make appointments. Additional<br />
tutoring services available through<br />
the ASC include telephone tutoring<br />
at (850) 678-5111, ext. 6663, tutoring<br />
through e-mail at asctutor@nwfsc.<br />
edu and free on-line tutoring from<br />
Smarthinking, accessible through the<br />
RaiderNet. Limited ASC services are<br />
also available at the Fort Walton Beach<br />
Campus, the Robert L. F. Sikes Center<br />
in Crestview, and the Chautauqua<br />
Center in DeFuniak Springs. For more<br />

Center at (850) 729-5389. A staffed<br />
open computer lab for student use is<br />
adjacent to the ASC on the Niceville<br />
campus.<br />
Math Laboratories, are located in<br />
the Math Building L, Room L-131, on<br />
the Niceville Campus and in Building<br />
7, Room 702 on the Fort Walton<br />
Beach Campus and Room 131 at the<br />
Crestview Center. The math labs are<br />
open to all students and provide free<br />
walk-in tutoring for all mathematics<br />
courses from Developmental<br />
Arithmetic to Differential Equations.<br />

Testing Services<br />
The Testing Center is located in<br />
Building C-2, at the Niceville Campus.<br />
Various tests are administered by the<br />
center. The entry level placement PERT<br />
test is given at all NWFSC Campuses<br />
and Centers. Please contact each<br />
center for exact times and location or<br />
refer to the current NWFSC Schedule<br />
of Classes for a listing. Other tests such<br />
as CLEP, SAT, ACT, DSST, and GED are<br />
administered by the Testing Center.<br />
Exact dates and times are available<br />
from the Information Center located<br />
in the Student Services Department,<br />
Building C-2 at the Niceville Campus.<br />
Students may also call the Testing<br />
Center at (850) 729-6016 or visit the<br />
NWFSC website at www.nwfsc.edu/<br />
testing. For information regarding the<br />
TABE or FBAT, students should contact<br />
the Career Assessment Center at (850)<br />
729-5227.<br />
The Testing Center at <strong>Northwest</strong><br />
<strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> also provides test<br />
proctoring services at the Niceville<br />
Campus only for students enrolled<br />
in Distance Learning programs at<br />
institutions other than NWFSC.<br />
There is a $30 testing fee per test<br />
administration payable at the time of<br />
testing. Testing sessions are available<br />
at various times throughout the<br />
week. Seating is limited, therefore<br />
appointments are required. For more<br />
information or to schedule a testing<br />
time, contact the Testing Center at<br />
729-6016.<br />
Employment Placement Services<br />
Students seeking assistance in securing<br />
employment while enrolled at the<br />
<strong>Northwest</strong> <strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> or<br />
upon completion of their studies may<br />
utilize several NWFSC resources,<br />
including faculty advisors, counselors,<br />
and the Financial Aid Office.<br />
The Career Resource Center, however,<br />
is the primary resource for student<br />
employment services. Located on the<br />
Niceville Campus, Building C-2, the<br />
Career Resource Center is open to all<br />
currently enrolled students. Services<br />
include a Job Seekers Registry, resume<br />
writing and interview skill workshops,<br />
job referrals to local employers, career<br />
fairs, on-line job search capabilities<br />
and information on local, state, and<br />
federal job opportunities. Students may<br />
access web-based job search resources<br />
including America’s Job Bank, JOBS<br />
Direct, and <strong>Florida</strong>’s Job Bank. Center<br />
staff are available to assist students in<br />
using the various career resources and<br />
will help students develop targeted job<br />
searches. Special career counseling is<br />
also available for eligible veterans on<br />
an appointment basis.<br />
Governance<br />
Campus governmental processes<br />
are shared by elected and selected<br />
members of the faculty, student body,<br />
administration, and college staff.<br />
The Administrators, Supervisors,<br />
and Professionals Council provides<br />
a forum whereby administrators,<br />
supervisors, and professional<br />
employees have an interactive role in<br />
creating and maintaining a cohesive<br />
work environment for all college<br />
employees and providing a means of<br />
communication to promote quality<br />
services and programs for employees,<br />
students and the community while<br />
supporting the college mission and<br />
values. The president of the Student<br />
Government Association (or their<br />
designee) is a member and represents<br />
the student body.<br />
The Student Government Association<br />
(SGA) represents the student body of<br />
the college. Every student of <strong>Northwest</strong><br />
<strong>Florida</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>College</strong> is a member of<br />
this association. The governing body<br />
of the SGA is the Student Senate.<br />
Senators are elected to serve one<br />
year terms. Projects in the past have<br />
included buying picnic tables, game<br />
room equipment, the monitor system<br />
in the <strong>College</strong> Mall, and table games<br />
for check-out use. The SGA sponsors<br />
and staffs picnics, entertainment, food<br />
drives for the needy, and blood drives.<br />
All students are encouraged to<br />
support their SGA. Any student who<br />
is interested in assisting with these<br />
activities is encouraged to run for<br />
office. The SGA Senate is housed in<br />
the <strong>College</strong> Mall, Building K. The SGA<br />
president may be reached at telephone<br />
extension 6786 in his/her office.<br />
