8.0 PROCEDURE<br />

8.1 Method of Determination<br />

8.1.1 Assume material contains asbestos.<br />

8.1.2 Only method of determining is through a laboratory analysis.<br />

8.1.2.1 This sample may only be obtained by a trained asbestos inspector.<br />

8.1.2.2 The Safety Manager or designee will have asbestos contractor to<br />

take samples.<br />

8.1.2.3 If handled incorrectly, could lead to unnecessary exposure.<br />

8.2 Permissible Level of Exposure<br />

8.2.1 The eight (8) hour OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit for asbestos is 0.1<br />

fibers/cubic centimeter of air.<br />

8.3 What to do with suspect materials -<br />

8.3.1 Do Not touch or disturb any suspect material.<br />

8.3.2 Notify supervisor of your suspicions.<br />

8.3.3 If conditions will not allow for an employee to wait for results of<br />

evaluation, the material in question must be considered asbestos and<br />

certified asbestos abatement contractor obtained to handle this material.<br />

8.3.4 Barricade for asbestos<br />

8.3.4.1 Rope off area and hang Danger signs and red/black danger tape.<br />

8.3.4.2 All employees are permitted to rope off area containing friable<br />

asbestos.<br />

8.3.4.3 No employee should enter area, unless certified in asbestos<br />

abatement.<br />
