Come Along and Volunteer in our Canteen
It’s a social gathering, but it’s mostly fun
(and the kids need you)
BIDDABAH PUBLIC SCHOOL phone 4954 6058 fax 4956 6780 page 1

Dear Parents,
So many people think that volunteering in the school
canteen is scary. Not true. Just volunteer as a one-off.
No commitments and make up your own mind.
It won’t cost you a thing, lunch and drinks are free. Tea
and coffee are free and the entertainment and view are
fantastic.
NAIDOC Week
Each year, the students of Biddabah Public School have
had a fundraiser for Koori Kids.
This year we are tying the fundraiser in with the
school’s NAIDOC celebrations and Education Week,
that being July 29 to August 2.
Volunteers are our school canteen’s most precious
resource. We are in a time of rebuilding the canteen
and are strongly committed to attract and retain more
active volunteers. Helping in our school canteen is a
wonderful way to meet other parents, gain food handling
experience and help with school fundraising. Further, it
gives your child a thrill to see you in the canteen.
Volunteers in the canteen are often mums, dads,
nannies, aunts, uncles and grandparents all working to
promote healthy eating and to make our good school’s
canteen better.
There are many benefits of volunteering. Canteen
volunteers:
• Make new friends
• Improve skills for employment
• Learn new skills
• Help the school raise funds
• Contribute to the school community
You can be a star in your kids eyes. Help in the canteen
and put a smile on their dial. Call Leanne Fong on 0439
This year we are selling kits containing a pencil case,
pencil, eraser and small ruler accompanied by a Respect
Band. The kit sells for $3.00 and will be available for
sale during recess on each day of Education Week.
time. They plan to offer a new activity that runs over 2
weeks, with a winner announced at Monday assembly.
All students will be offered the opportunity to vote for
which are on display in the Library. The winners will be
announced in Week 6.
The theme of Bookweek this year is “Read across the
Once I was deserted on an island but I’ll start at the
very beginning.
On Saturday I woke up and had some breakfast after
breakfast I got
my clothes on. Then I brushed my teeth and my hair.
Off I went for a bike ride. But I tripped and I fell onto
a pile of wood and fell deep into the sea and I floated
to an island.
Deserted on an Island
If I was deserted on an island the belongings I would
take would be some…
Clothes because I wouldn’t want to have no clothes on a
deserted island! Yuck!!! I can’t even imagine it. I would
also take…
Fresh Water so that I don’t have to use water from
ponds or even worse, the sea! I would also take…
My Two Dogs because you might not know, but dogs are
the kindest friends you could ever have and they’re
quite helpful and very fun to play with! My next
belonging would be…
Food so if I ever did get stuck on a deserted island I
wouldn’t have to go searching for it. I would also take
a…
Bed because if I had a bed made from leaves I wouldn’t
get my beauty sleep and I wouldn’t get enough sleep!!!!!
By Brianna Cross
Deserted on an island
Imagine we are stranded on an island far from
civilisation. We can only take 5 items with us. What
would they be and why
1. Water is essential for us to live. I would as much as I
could bring.
2. I would bring a fishing boat so I could go fishing
because fish is meat and meat is food.
3. A fishing rod would be good on the fishing boat.
4. A tent would be dry and keep me safe inside.
5. A harrier jump jet could get me off the island.
Deserted On An Island
1. (Tent)
I would bring a tent if I was deserted on an island
because if I didn’t have one I would have
nowhere to sleep if I was staying for more than
one day.
2. (Food)
If I was deserted I would bring food so that I do not
starve and die because I don’t have anything to
digest.
3. (Water)
I would take as much water as I could if I got deserted
on an island because I wouldn’t survive if I didn’t
have any water and it wouldn’t taste good at all if
I forgot something to drink and would have to
drink the salt water from the ocean.
4. (Clothes)
If I got stuck on an island I would bring some clothes so
that I wasn’t naked and also if someone came.
5. (Compass)
I think a compass would be good to have around if you
wanted to go exploring or just have a walk
around.
By Laura
Deserted on an island
1. I would pick a boat so you could get home from
you do not have to complain to your teacher.
nude
I would keep food with me so I can keep my engery and
water is essential, I will need it so I can stay alive, if I
don’t have any I will die.
5. (compass)
I think a compass is a good thing to keep with you
because you will know where you are going if you
want to somewhere.
By Taylah
Deserted on an Island
I was swimming and a wave hit me and I got knocked out
for a minute.
1. On the Island I would take lots of water so I can
find the home.
3. I would take rope just in case I need to climb a tree.
4. Next I would take spear so I can hunt.
Deserted on an island.
1 Food- So I can’t die and have food fights.
2 Water- So I can drink fresh water.
3 Flying house- So I can live there and fly back to the
city.
4 Jennie bottle- So I can wish to get home and wish for
unlimited wishes.
5 Flying pig- So I can have a friend to have fun with and
to fly up to the clouds and drink the water.
By Bailey
Deserted on an Island
Only one week left to collect those SPONSORS for WALK for WiFi Page 7

3. Now let me think… how about food. I will need
food to survive on an island.
4. I don’t want to be without clothes so I think
clothes are defiantly on the list.
5. Last but not least, fresh water because if I have
no fresh water I would probably die from
dehydration. I think that’s all so see you later
alligator don’t forget your toilet paper. Oops I
did forget! At least I brought a magic wand.
By Isabelle
Deserted on an island
1.Unicorn-I’ll take a unicorn with me because it will help
me walk.
2.A fawn is coming with me and do you know why
Because he would help me cook and do stuff .
3.Lion-My lion is coming with me so he could kill animals
and I will share with him.
4.Bowl-taking a bowl with me because I can get water .
5.Toothbrash- the toothbrush will clean my teeth.
By Mackenzie
Deserted on an island.
1. I would take water because it is fresh and you
need lots and lots of it to stay alive.
2. We would take healthy food because it is healthy
for you I would only take a small amount of
unhealthy food.
3. Clothes are good because you can’t be naked.
4. Shoes are good because you can have protection
on your feet.
5. Wood is good because you can make fires to keep
warm and to cook things on it, like fish and
marshmellows and toast.
By Claire
Deserted On An Island
If I was deserted on an island and I could only take five
things I would take a hammock, thick sticks, fishing rod,
esky and a pocket knife.
I would bring a hammock because if I didn’t, I would
have to sleep on the SAND! I mean, it would be more
comfortable in a hammock, right
It would be handy to bring some thick sticks so I could
be nice, toasty and warm at night with a lovely fire right
beside me.
If I brought a fishing rod, I would use it to catch fish
to eat and not starve to death. Because if I didn’t I
would probably die of hunger!
I would take an esky because that way all my fish will
keep cool and they won’t become warm and be yucky.
I’m thinking that if I brought a pocket knife I would use
it to signal a helicopter just in case I really wanted or
needed to get off the island.
So after my talk what do you think you’ll take if you get
stranded on an island
By Olivia
Deserted On An Island
Imagine we are stranded on an island.
1. I would like to bring some food to survive.
2.A Spear so when I run out of food I can hunt for
animals.
3. A Fishing rod to catch fish but I know that it will
take a while.
4. I would want to bring a flying pig so I can relax but
when the pig starts to oink I will punch the
flying pig 100,000,000 times .
5. Jumpers so I am not cold in the winter.
