Travel to Tanzania<br />
Travel to Africa is not included in the course fee and can be<br />
organized by the course organizers or by the participants<br />
themselves. Meeting point for the start of the course is in Dar es<br />
Salaam. Accommodation in Dar es Salaam and Ifakara will be<br />
organized by the course organizers.<br />

A 2-week course organized by Secours Dentaire International<br />
In collaboration with the Swiss Tropical Institute, University of<br />
Basel, Department of Oral Surgery and Stomatology, University of<br />
Bern (Switzerland), the St. Francis Designated Referral Hospital,<br />
Ifakara, Tanzania and the Tanzanian Tranining Center for<br />
International Health (TTCIH), Ifakara (Tanzania).<br />
Postgraduate training for young dentists in basic surgery in a<br />
dental clinic of a tropical hospital with limited resources.

Learning objectives <br />
The course that will be held in the SDI-dental clinic of the<br />
St. Francis Designated Referral hospital Ifakara (SFRH), as well as<br />
in the modern Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health,<br />
aims to teach young graduated dentists with limited clinical<br />
experience in basic oral surgery in managing clinical procedures<br />
like simple and complicated tooth extractions, abscess incisions,<br />
management of traumatic maxillofacial injuries and other<br />
surgical treatments.<br />
The participants will have the opportunity to see behind the<br />
curtain of the daily routine in a tropical hospital guided by<br />
doctors of the St. Francis Referral hospital and get a picture of a<br />
typical African Country from a non tourist point of view.<br />
The diversified program includes<br />
City tour of Dar es Salaam and overview of dental practice in<br />
the largest town of Tanzania<br />
Course fee<br />
The total course fee is CHF 2’900 and must be paid in advance.<br />
This sum includes the registration fee (CHF 500) which is due at<br />
the moment of acceptance, the tuition fee and travel within<br />
Tanzania, as well as accommodation and full board during the<br />
time of the course.<br />
As SDI is a non profit organisation, all of their experts as well as<br />
the instructors of the course are voluntary. The full course fee is<br />
invested locally and is part of the strategy to make the SDI-Clinic<br />
of Ifakara financially in depended.<br />
Participants <br />
Due to the infrastructure, the course is limited to 8 participants.<br />
First come, first served. <br />
• Transport to Ifakara by the Tanzanian-Sambian-Railways or Minibus<br />
• Clinical and theoretical Course at the SFRH, Ifakara<br />
• Prophylactic visits in schools of Ifakara<br />
• Get a overview of the acuctual Malaria research of the Swiss<br />
tropical Institute<br />
• Walking tour in the Udzungwa National Park to the Sanjee water<br />
falls<br />
• Stay one night in the Mikumi National Park and sea the unique wild<br />
life with game drives
