M113 Modernisation

The M113 Modernisation Concept
The technical concept of the American M113 dates
back to the fifties. Numerous versions of these commercial
vehicles can be found around the world. Over
80,000 M113’s have been built and are in use in more
than 40 countries. As early as in the eighties, FFG began
to undertake steps to improve the M113. As a result
of its versatility, FFG has developed individual modernisation
solutions for the M113 within the scope of
the specific requirement profiles. Existing integration
kits can still be used with it. These concepts lay the
foundation for converting the M113 into a modern
vehicle that is able to meet today’s demands. More
than 1000 FFG modernised M113 vehicles are used
by the German Federal Armed Forces today, as they
are in Denmark, Norway and Australia.

Extending the service life G2
In order to make the M113 safer and to increase the
ergonomics of the driver positon, the following modernisation
measures have been carried out:
● Steering and braking system were functionally separated
● Hydraulic two-cycle braking system with parking
brake
● Hydraulic steering system
● Reinforcement of the power train
● Newly designed driver positon
These modernisation measures ensure that the M113
meets today’s requirements.
Extending the service life G3
In addition to driving safety, the G3 increases mobility by
means of the following equipment:
● EURO II engine
● Automatic gearbox
● Hydraulic two-cycle braking system and parking
brake
● Modified cooling system
● Reinforcement of the power train
● Newly designed driver positon
As a modern carrier vehicle, an EURO III engine is, of
course, also available.

In keeping with the modular construction of our
modernisation concepts, a variety of options are possible:
