The Gang’s All Here! 4 Bob Scrambler Wendy Lofty Scrambler is an all-terrain, four-wheel drive vehicle with a trailer that he can attach if he needs to haul materials. He is streetwise, enthusiastic, and loves to go off-roading. Scoop Wendy is Bob’s business partner. She runs the office and keeps things organized. She’s really good at all kinds of construction work. Dizzy Lofty is a mobile crane who loves to lift things, which is handy because he’s taller than anyone in the construction yard. He has a demolition ball for knocking down buildings, a hook for lifting, and a claw for gripping. Mr. Bentley Scoop loves to dig holes and move dirt. He is always up for a challenge and usually takes the lead on projects. Spud Dizzy, the youngest machine, spends her day mixing cement for Bob. She still finds time to laugh and have fun. She claps her front wheels together when she’s excited, which is most of the time. Farmer Pickles Mr. Bentley is the Mayor of Bobsville. He comes up with the plan to build a recycling center and wind farm to keep Sunflower Valley clean and green. Spud is Farmer Pickles’s scarecrow, though he’s not all that good at his job. He likes to help Bob, but his “help” often ends up creating new problems. Farmer Pickles often needs work done around his farm, especially when Spud has been playing around! Sometimes Farmer Pickles helps out with Bob’s projects.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle 5 Ask students if they help with recycling at home or at school. They may have seen the triangular loop of arrows on containers that indicates that the material can be recycled. Explain that each of the three arrows represents a step in the recycling process: collection, processing, and making recyclables into new products. Keeping recyclable items inside the recycling loop keeps them out of landfills and reduces pollution. Here are ways you can help to reduce, reuse and recycle! • Turn off lights and other electrical equipment when you are not using them. • Don’t leave the water running while you brush your teeth or wash your hands. • Close doors and windows to reduce the need for air conditioning and heating.
