INFORMATION ON AREA 4: STUDENT SELECTION AND SUPPORT SERVICES<br />
4.1 Admission <strong>and</strong> <strong>Selection</strong><br />
Information on Benchmarked St<strong>and</strong>ards<br />
4.1.1 Who is responsible for student selection State the academic criteria <strong>and</strong> the mechanisms for<br />
admission to the programme <strong>and</strong> any other additional requirements. Show evidence that the<br />
admission policy <strong>and</strong> mechanism is free from discrimination <strong>and</strong> bias.<br />
The Administrative Officer <strong>and</strong> the Dean of relevant Faculty who formed the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Selection</strong><br />
Committee will be responsible for the student selection for the said faculty.<br />
The Al-Madinah International University is proud to be a non discriminatory institution. The<br />
student selection will be solely based on the student meeting the entry requirement <strong>and</strong> availability<br />
of place in the relevant faculty.<br />
4.1.2 Provide evidence that the students selected fulfil the admission policies.<br />
The students to be selected will be those who will meet the entry requirement as approved by the<br />
Ministry of Higher Education/<strong>MQA</strong>. The HEP will adhere strictly to the approved entry requirement<br />
as stated in the approval letter by MOHE<br />
4.1.3 Describe the admission mechanisms <strong>and</strong> criteria for students with other equivalent qualifications<br />
(where applicable).<br />
In the area where the potential students do not have the entry requirement as stated in the<br />
approval letter the equivalency of the students’ qualification will be assessed <strong>and</strong> it’s equivalency<br />
will be determined <strong>and</strong> if it meets the equivalency to the stated entry requirement the student will<br />
be admitted.<br />

The entry requirement criteria <strong>and</strong> mechanism will be published <strong>and</strong> disseminated in the website<br />
<strong>and</strong> faculty brochure.<br />

4.1.5 Describe the appeal mechanism.<br />
The student who fails to get entry to any faculty of the HEP are allowed to appeal by writing to the<br />
Admission office by giving reasons <strong>and</strong> relevant evidence. The appeal will then pass to the<br />
relevant faculty. The Dean of the said faculty will assess <strong>and</strong> evaluate the appeal <strong>and</strong> if it meets<br />
the entry requirement the student will be admitted.<br />
4.1.6 Describe the characteristics of students admitted. Provide a copy of any technical st<strong>and</strong>ards that<br />
have been deployed for the admission of students with special needs.<br />
All students that will be admitted will be those who meet the entry requirement <strong>and</strong> its equivalency<br />
as stated in the approval letter from MOHE.<br />
Currently the HEP do not have any policy or st<strong>and</strong>ard for admission of students with special needs<br />
however they may be considered on case by case basis.<br />

4.1.8 Describe how the selection methods comply with the HEP’s social responsibilities, human<br />
resource requirements <strong>and</strong> needs for further studies <strong>and</strong> lifelong learning.<br />
The students to be selected will first have to meet the entry requirement criteria as approved by<br />
MOHE. However, elements of social responsibilities, human resource requirements <strong>and</strong> needs for<br />
further studies <strong>and</strong> lifelong learning will be added criteria for the selection of potential students.<br />
HEP will always be sensitive to its social responsibilities especially in area of providing higher<br />
education <strong>and</strong> knowledge to potential students. It will continuously assess the human resource<br />

Currently interview is not part of the student selection process.<br />
4.1.10 State what special programmes are provided for those who are selected but need additional<br />
remedial assistance.<br />
<strong>Student</strong> who do not fully meet the entry requirement but have the necessary basic qualifications<br />
may be admitted into the programme, however, they will be required to do bridging subjects as a<br />
remedial process.<br />
4.1.11 How does the department continuously monitor <strong>and</strong> periodically review student selection<br />
processes<br />
The department will continuously <strong>and</strong> periodically review the performances of the students in the<br />
programme <strong>and</strong> the relationship with their qualification at the point of entry. The feedback from<br />
the review process will be used to improve the student selection process from time to time.<br />

HEP will always get feedbacks from the relevant stakeholder formally or informally <strong>and</strong> will used<br />

The student to be selected will be those who meet the entry requirement as stated in the approval<br />
letter from MOHE.<br />
The entry requirement is set based on the need of the programme that has its own learning<br />
outcomes to be achieved as stated in the proposed curriculum of the programme.<br />

transfer <strong>and</strong> cross-border provisions. The quality assurance bodies especially <strong>MQA</strong> will always be<br />
referred to keep abreast with the latest development.<br />

4.3 Transfer of <strong>Student</strong><br />

4.3.1 Explain the policy, criteria <strong>and</strong> mechanisms to enable qualified students to transfer to another<br />
programme. Indicate if there are appropriate mechanisms such as a bridging course for students<br />
who need it.<br />
<strong>Student</strong> may be allowed to transfer from one programme to another within the HEP if they meet<br />
the basic requirement as set by the receiving programme/faculty. The student may get credit<br />
transfer for the subjects that they have taken from the previous programme. The process of the<br />
credit transfer will involve assessment of subject to subject matching.<br />
4.3.2 Indicate how students accepted for transfer demonstrate comparable achievements in their<br />
previous institution of study. Provide the relevant data to support this.<br />
The process of the credit transfer will involve assessment of subject to subject matching. Since<br />
this is a new programme to be proposed there is no relevant data.<br />

The instrument used to facilitate student mobility, exchanges <strong>and</strong> transfers, nationally <strong>and</strong><br />
internationally will be the credit system. The students’ performance <strong>and</strong> the credit that they carry<br />
will be assessed <strong>and</strong> their equivalency will be determined to facilitate their mobility, exchanges<br />
<strong>and</strong> transfers.<br />

4.4.1 What support services are made available to students Show evidence that those who provide<br />
these services are qualified. What other additional support programmes provided by other<br />
organisations are accessible to students<br />
One of the support services made available to the students will be counselling – academic,<br />
financial <strong>and</strong> emotional, to be provided by counsellors who are qualified in the specified area.<br />
Currently the mode of delivery of HEP is on-line therefore there is no additional support<br />
programme are provided by other organisational within the university. However students may get<br />
counselling from organization outside the university in their placed of residence.<br />
4.4.2 Describe the accessibility, confidentiality <strong>and</strong> effectiveness of the academic, non-academic <strong>and</strong><br />
career counselling services available to students.<br />
HEP subscribe <strong>and</strong> fully respect the confidentiality of each individual students. All student records<br />
will be kept confidential by the relevant counsellors <strong>and</strong> no other person other than the students<br />
themselves can access to the record.<br />
4.4.3 What mechanism is available for students to complain <strong>and</strong> to appeal on matters relating to student<br />
support services<br />
They may contact the relevant authority to submit any complaints <strong>and</strong> appeal on matters relating<br />
to student support services.<br />
4.4.4 How are the adequacy, effectiveness <strong>and</strong> safety of these services evaluated <strong>and</strong> ensured<br />
The services will be monitored <strong>and</strong> reviewed from time to time to evaluate its effectiveness <strong>and</strong><br />
safety so as to provide the most efficient <strong>and</strong> effective service to the clients.<br />
4.4.5 Describe the roles <strong>and</strong> responsibilities of those responsible for student co-curricular activities.<br />
The student services department will be responsible for the students co-curricular activities<br />

however since the HEP is an on-line HEP <strong>and</strong> the students are scattered all offer the world,<br />
therefore it face difficulty to organize co-curricular activities for the students.<br />

As stated in 4.4.5, there is a problem of organizing co-curricular activities due to the nature of the<br />
HEP-on-line. Therefore there is no student record on the student activities being managed <strong>and</strong><br />
maintained.<br />
4.4.7 How are students orientated into the programme<br />
Orientation programme are organized through e-orientation (University web –site <strong>and</strong> student<br />
guide) whereby students will be informed about the various aspect of education in the HEP.<br />

learning outcomes of the programme.<br />
Learning outcomes of the programme are developed to produce a certain type of graduate that<br />
can meet the vision, mission <strong>and</strong> educational goals of HEP. The support service, co-curricular<br />
activities <strong>and</strong> the curriculum will be the instrument used to access <strong>and</strong> achieved the learning<br />
outcomes.<br />
4.4.9 How is the effectiveness of the counselling services measured, <strong>and</strong> the progress of those who<br />
seek its services monitored What plans are there to improve the services, including that of<br />
enhancing the skills <strong>and</strong> professionalism of the counsellors<br />
The students that go through the counselling service will be monitored <strong>and</strong> their progress will be<br />
recorded <strong>and</strong> evaluated from time to time.<br />
HEP counsellors are trained professional, they will be sent for professional upgrading process as<br />
<strong>and</strong> when they are required.<br />

<strong>Student</strong>s with problem in various aspects may also be referred to the counsellors by their lecturer<br />
<strong>and</strong> programme coordinator.<br />
