Service Highlights

Enhanced protection against pirate attacks
With crew safety paramount in the minds of owners and operators, citadel protection offers a tried and tested security concept to safeguard
personnel in case of a pirate attack. Sandwich Plate System (SPS) is the ideal means to reinforce ship citadels and deter a sustained attack by
the most determined hijacker trying to gain access.
SPS is a structural composite material made up of two metal plates bonded with a polyurethane elastomer core to deliver high strength,
superb impact resistance and enhanced rigidity as a robust alternative to conventional stiffened steel structures. It is used in a wide variety of
products including structural flooring, stadia and arena terraces, blast enclosures, ships, offshore structures and bridges.
Strengthened Citadel Protection
Installing SPS Citadel Access Protection to entrances of designated ships’ citadels,
owners and operators significantly enhance the security for their crew. The protective
panels form a formidable final barrier to delay pirates while the crew maintain
command and control of the vessel until outside help arrives.
Installation Process
SPS Citadel Access Protection panels, typically installed 125mm inside the doorway to
the safe refuge, delay and deter entry to pirates and can be installed on new-builds
or retro-fitted to existing vessels.
Made up of a solid steel frame, SPS panels and clamps the installation is simple. The
frame, constructed from standard steel profiles, is fully welded around the existing
doorway and the SPS panels are then secured against the frame using specially
designed clamps. The barrier may be constructed from a single hinged SPS door or
interlocking SPS panels. The panels slot into position and are secured by tightening
tommy screws in the clamps.
When closed, the SPS barrier creates a detail free surface that can be rapidly deployed
within 90 seconds. The panels create an extremely strong barrier that can withstand
far higher impact loads than equivalent steel structures. Its triple-barrier protection
is superior to standard steel water-tight doors and offers excellent protection against
ballistics and shrapnel damage. European Standard FB6 ballistic compliant panels
constructed from hardened steel are also available.
Rapid Deployment
SPS panels designed to be manhandled into
position (35kg/panel), based on a standard 3-15-3
design
Deployed in less than 90 seconds per doorway
Panels can be removed and stored separately
