From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students and Friends of GIS,
Congratulations to Mr Steve Armstrong on his appointment as the new Principal of REPS.
Mr Armstrong has been teaching History at GIS and has also taken on the role of Assistant
Head of Secondary. He has a wealth of senior management experience and I am sure that
I speak on behalf of the whole GIS community in wishing him well in this new role.
Fortunately for us Ms Emily March has just arrived to join her fiancé Mr Doyle who has just
joined us teaching English. Ms March is a highly capable and experienced teacher of IB
History and was initially to teach part-time and then take over the History position from Mr
Armstrong for the new academic year. Mr Armstrong will be working with Ms March to
ease the transition over the coming weeks.
The construction of the additional swimming pool, grandstand, changing rooms and PE
office are well on track to be finished on time. This is wonderful news as we can get the
students swimming again on-site. The FOBISIA swimming teams have been using Eastern
Star for training, but it will be nice to have swimming back in the curriculum as soon as
possible of course.
Construction is about to begin on the new Primary Music room and Primary ELS
classrooms, this will be a 2-storey addition which will be on the end of the Primary Hall on
what was the Year 1 and 2 playground. We hope for this to be completed in early May.
This year we are expanding on our recognition of Chinese New Year by hosting an
evening event on Thursday February 12 from 7pm in the Main Hall. Students will be
performing a variety of items and also explaining the importance of the coming Year of the
Goat (or Sheep or Ram). It promises to be a wonderful night – make sure you get your
tickets from the Front Office.
Year 11 and IB2 students have just completed their Mock Examinations; it is not long now
until the IGCSE and IB examinations get underway in Term 3. We will be hosting a
Parents’ Evening for the parents of these students on Tuesday February 10.
Included with this Newsletter are 3 more posters of the GIS Core Values – Knowledgeable,
Inquirers and Caring and also the posters we have had on display recognising more of the
countries represented in the school - Switzerland, USA, Belgium and Australia.
Kind Regards,
