From Dr Tasker: Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students and Friends of GIS,
We are now at the end of a very busy first term. The students have achieved a lot both
inside and outside the classroom with the latter part of the term seeing some wonderful
Christmas spirit. The Christmas Fun Day was a wonderful event - thanks again to
everyone involved. This past week has seen a tremendous Christmas Concert, the hugely
entertaining Year 1 and 2 Christmas Play - The Landlord's Cat and also the Foundation
Christmas Show (and feast!)
I am delighted to advise that a major investment from our parent company, MBf Taylors, is
being made in the Foundation area of the school. Over the coming weeks and months you
will see a huge transformation in the playgrounds; new equipment, landscaping and play
areas are being developed. There is also a commitment to follow this with a redesigning of
the actual classroom areas.
In the new term we will be welcoming Mr David Doyle to the English department. Mr Doyle
is joining us from Ireland and is an experienced IB English and Theory of Knowledge
teacher.
We have been developing ways to visually portray the GIS Core Values; attached to this
newsletter is an example of each of the Core Values portrayed in a poster form. I will
attach other posters over the next few newsletters too. Soon these posters will be on
display around the school.
We have celebrated His Majesty the King's birthday with a whole school ‘Yellow
photograph’ and many of you have signed the Book of Well Wishes, which has been sent
to the palace. So, for the first week of December the international awareness was on
Thailand; this week has been South Africa.
For those of you celebrating it, Merry Christmas, and to everyone 'happy holidays'. We
look forward to seeing the students refreshed and ready for Term 2 on TUESDAY January
6.
Kind Regards,
Happy Birthday!
All of GIS came together to celebrate HM the King’s birthday. Staff, teachers and students
all wore yellow to mark the occasion. We also took a whole school photo to honour HM the
King’s birthday. There was also a special book in our front office where visitors, staff and
students could write a message of good-will.

Christmas at GIS!
GIS enjoyed a festive Christmas season with plays, a fun day and a concert!
On November 29, the whole school came together for a Christmas Fun Day, which
included some great performances from our Primary and Secondary students. The Friends
of Garden PTA put on an array of delicious snacks and drinks for visitors, and there were
numerous stalls where students and parents could win prizes.
On December 9 the Main Hall was packed with parents and students for our Christmas
Concert. Our Arts Department once again did a brilliant job of organising the various songs
and performances, which included everything from traditional carols to ‘Let It Go’ from the
Disney movie ‘Frozen.
Finally, on December 11, our Year 1 and 2s put on their own Christmas Play, which was
watched eagerly by dozens of proud parents. Well done to the teachers and staff for
ensuring the students looked, and sounded, so wonderful!
Check out our Youtube channel for a full video of our Christmas activities. Have a
happy Christmas and a great 2015!
Christmas
Fun Day

From Mrs Gordon: Head of Primary
Merry Christmas!
I have just returned from watching the Year 1 and 2 Christmas Show, “The Landlord’s
Cat,” which has put me in the Christmas spirit with all the wonderful singing, dancing,
costumes and staging. The children were great and a wonderful testament to the
dedication, patience and talent of their teachers. These are the occasions at school that
leave lasting memories for the children.
I can’t wait for the Foundation Christmas songs and feast on Friday, a wonderful
opportunity to come together to enjoy the children’s performances and the time and effort
that goes into them.
As always at the end of a term we have some families that are moving on and leaving the
GIS community.
From Foundation, we are sad to say goodbye to Arnav who is returning to India, and
Jamie, who has made great progress while he’s been with us. In Primary, Soyun and
Hamin are both returning to Korea and will be missed by their classmates.
Afif is returning to Malaysia and Prem is moving to the USA, which is very exciting for him
and his family. Mika is moving to Chiang Mai and Ray in Year 3 is also moving schools.
We wish them all well in their moves and hope they settle happily into their new schools.

Wishing you all a peaceful holiday and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Amazing Astroturf
Years 1 and 2 have been enjoying a new playing surface this term – thanks to our new
astroturf area.
The students are loving all the extra space to play in and it looks wonderful. Many thanks
to our Site Manager Mr Martin for organising this.

From Mr Ball: Head of Secondary
Hello Parents,
The most important thing to say is Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our
community.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Secondary Parents’ Evening on Thursday night. I enjoy speaking
with the parents and the students at these events and also partaking of the fine nibbles
and beverages.
I look back over the term in reflection and I find it hard to believe that we have packed so
much into it. We have a talented group of students who make this possible. Needless to
say it has been as exciting as it has been busy. For me the most important thing at the end
of the term is that the students look as engaged and happy as they did in the first week of
term, and they do. This says everything.
Next term has a number of key events for your diaries:

The Year 11 and IB2 students have their mock examinations, which will start on
Thursday January 8. If the students haven’t started to revise already, then they need
to start now. For the IGCSE students all the work completed in Year 10 and 11 needs
to be learnt. For the IB students all the work covered in IB1 and IB2 needs to be
learnt. The mock examination uses past papers and are graded based on the IGCSE
and IB mark schemes.
We have the honour of hosting the FOBISIA Under 13 Games this academic year.
The competition will run from Wednesday March 11 to Sunday March 15. The Under
13 Games offers a great opportunity for the various teams, and individuals, to
compete in a friendly and welcoming environment. We look forward to providing an
environment in which the athletes are able to challenge their own standards, work
within teams and have the opportunity to engage with others.
This year we are combining the IGCSE and the IB information evenings for parents
to be on the same night. The IGCSE and the IB Evening (presented in English) will
be held on Tuesday March 17.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Sage Ball
Head of Secondary
Core Values
At GIS, we have been looking at ways to show our Core Values. Here are some of the
images we have created that will soon be on display all round school. Look out for more
new ones soon!

Flags
We continue to celebrate all the nationalities in our school. Over the past couple of weeks,
we have recognised the nations of South Africa and Thailand.

Sport
Marathon Medal
Well done to Daseul, who came 5 th in the Under 15
category at the Chonburi Marathon 2014 on December 7.
She completed the 10 km run in 1 hour 21 minutes.
