Fall Season Sports
The ThunderboltZ, a team of almost all rookies
played their hearts out both on the competition field
and at practice. They turned all their hard work into a
silver medal! Way to go ThunderboltZ!

This year’s Aquatic Team garnered 8 gold
medals, 5 silver medals, 7 Bronze medals, 4 Fourth
Place ribbons, 6 Fifth Place ribbons and 4 Sixth

Jo Co had a terrific bowling
team this year. They
earned 6 Gold Medals, 7 Silver
Medals, 14 Bronze Medals,
7 Fourth Place Ribbons, 9
Fifth Place Ribbons, 6 Sixth
Place Ribbons, 8 Seventh
Place Ribbons and 4 Eighth
Place Ribbons. A total of
eighty-three athletes competing
at the Regional Competition
at Lava Lanes, Medford.
A total of 86 athletes attended
weekly practice sessions!!!!

season was played by Jerry Davis, a
whopping 226! Jerry has improved
his average by 21 pins since 2011.
William Davidson was Jo County's
top scorer during competition with
a combined 2 game score of 339.

After ten years of participating in Special Olympics Oregon
Josephine County, our favorite colleens are picking up
stakes and moving back to the Old Sod this year. Our fondest
farewells to them and deepest wishes for a happy move. We are
hoping to keep in touch and look forward to Special Olympics reports
on the Irish Special Olympics program.

Double honors were won by the
Wildcats 5x5 Team. They not only
played flawlessly to win the Gold
Medal, but they exhibited such
good sportsmanship that they
were awarded the Sportsmanship
Medal as well!! Way to go!!!!!!!!
Basketball
The Basketball Regional Competition was a
stunning success, with each team shining in
their own way. Individual skills garnered 2
Fourth Place ribbons and 2 Sixth Place ribbons.
Our 3x3 Wildcats Team went undefeated and
won the Gold Medal.
The Rockers won the Bronze and played like
champions every game.
The Ducks came up empty on the wins this
time but demonstrated good sportsmanship
and good cheer throughout, earning them
the Sportsmanship Medal.

Fund raising: The past season featured two fun and crazy fundraisers
benefitting Special Olympics Oregon Josephine County. Participants, backed by donors,
jumped into freezing cold water for our county during the annual Polar Plunge.
A first for us, CrossFit Grants Pass hosted a Throw-down. A long time
supporter of Special Olympics, this local gym decided to raise some money for us by
throwing a day long athletics competition. I got tired just watching the first event!

Training for Life
Each year Special Olympics has a motto for the year.
‘Training for Life’ is a particularly apt one. Our program is year
round. It is a way of life. The goals of a Special Olympian are
goals that can build a good life. We aim for personal excellence,
growth in skills, a spirit of sportsmanship and fair play, an appreciation
of each others efforts. We form friendships and have a
sense of community. Each person in Special Olympics is valued, be
it athlete or volunteer. Come! Join us., for a few hours at a meet,
for a season or for the year. There are volunteer opportunities
tailored to any time commitment you could wish. You’ll be glad
you did.
