The first power generating set with a small switch box and 

compact dimensions. 

Since the creation of the trade mark GEKO the company 

has had its own development department. 

Here, new generator-solutions have continually been 

developed for applications on a professional level and 

made ready for marketing. This was achieved through 

realization of outstanding technological ideas. 

6500 ED-AA/HHBA 

The first power generator equipped with a large synthetic fuel 

tank for long operating time and very small dimensions. 

7402 ED-AA/HEBA 

The first power generating set which fully integrates all 

electric equipment in one switch box. Environmentally 

friendly through „Silent Economic“ technology.

The advantages of asynchronous alternators 

Usable for electronic consumers 

due to a low distortion factor 

The given analysis of the harmonic overtones illustrates 

clearly that the proportion of “parasitic freqencies” 

is extremely low. There are hardly any overtones in 

the higher frequency range. Connected electronic 

devices cannot be influenced by any “unclean” supply 

voltage. 

The distortion factor of the average GEKOasynchronous 

alternator is approximately 2%. 

By comparison, customary synchronous alternators 

often have a distortion factor of up to 15%. 

A low overtone proportion decreases the interference 

liability of practically all electronic consumers. 

Electronic devices and phase-controlled modulators 

can be operated without any interferences. Electric 

motors run more silent and heat up less with low 

distortion factors. The correlation between the average 

value, the peak value and the effective value of the 

alternator 

voltage is more clearly defined. This has a particularly 

positive effect on the functioning of battery chargers.

GEKO-asynchronous alternators cope perfectly well 

with appliances that demand a high starting current 

(e.g. circular saws, fans, compressors) if the right 

device is chosen. 

GEKO has developed a special starting amplifier and is 

far more effective against gensets that use inverter 

technology or cyclo-converter-regulation. 

Even when compared to synchronous alternators, 

GEKO-asynchronous technology with starting amplifier 

is more than competitive. 

GEKO power generating sets serve with exact details 

about the actual, attainable starting current in ampere 

at cos φ 0,6.

The alternators meet safety class IP 54 and have an 

extended lifetime due to their durable windings and 

bearings. Their range of application is considerably 

increased by the fact that they may even be used in 

conditions where they are exposed to high humidity 

and dirt. Continual operation outdoors presents no 

problem at all.

Due to its asynchronous design, it is possible to double 

the genset performance via a cable reel (SCS 400, see 

accessories). For this process, no complex synchronisation 

is needed. Even gensets of different performances 

may be used in parallel operation.

The dangerous voltage superelevation of slightly 

loaded phases which occur with compounded synchronous 

alternators (safety class IP 23) are completely avoided 

with GEKO -asynchronous technology. 

Example: If an electronic analyzer, a computer or a simple 

light bulb is connected to one phase and an appliance that 

demands a high starting current (such as a circular saw, a 

fan or a compressor) is connected to the other phase, the 

voltage of the phase under low load increases to more 

than 300V. Small appliances cannot cope with such a load. 

A voltage increase is excluded if the GEKO -asynchronous 

alternator principle is employed. It is possible to achieve 

a considerably higher single-phase perfomance as with 

regular alternators. 

The two charts show the operation of a single-phase 

appliance under a load of 28 A.

Starting amplification 

- Voltage drop under extreme loads 

Due to the fact that asynchronous alternators have constant 

excitation capacitors, the given up voltage decreases when 

the load is increased. In case of loading with resistive load 

load (cos φ = 1), the voltage moves to the rated load within 

the tolerance of ±10% designated by DIN 6280. When an 

electric motor is connected, fluctuation occurs for a short 

period of time. 

This can cause severe phase fluctuations (up to cos φ = 0,6) 

until the voltage stabilizes. 

- Adding additional excitation (starting amplifier) 

GEKO asynchronous gensets are available with a starting 

amplifier. As soon as the electrical consumption increases over 

the rated current, an additional excitation is added to the 

standard excitation. 

The voltage drop can thus be compensated. 

To avoid all causes of possible thermal damage to the alternator, 

the additional excitation is disabled after12 seconds. This 

time is sufficient for the starting of inductive cunsumers.

For the operation with welding machines 

a considerable improvement may be 

achieved by disconnecting of the starting 

amplification. In order to suppress 

additional excitation, it is possible to 

switch manually to “welding operation”.

welding machines to a very limited extent only.

Safety class 

The safety class of electric machines is specified in DIN 

40050. This standard underlines that electric machines are to 

be constructed in such a way as to be protected against 

humidity and foreign bodies. The safety class is specified by 

the letters IP followed by two figures.

IP 23 IP 54 

GEKO safety class IP 54 represents an extremely high safety 

standard. 

Devices designed according to safety class IP 54 may be 

exposed to splash water without running any danger. The durability 

of the alternator is further improved by its dust protection. 

Devices designed according to safety class IP 23 should not be 

exposed to rain and splash water.

The gensets of the types “Silent Economic”, “The 

Professionals” and “Super Silent” provide considerably more 

alternative current than others. GEKO power gensets may 

also be used with appliances for which customary aggregates 

prove to be insufficient. 

Quality and reliability 

By manufacturing our own stator- and rotor packages, 

making use of special dynamo sheet qualities, various heat 

treatment processes, the development of special nut 

geometries, and our own algraph cast production, GEKO has 

succeeded in manufacturing special high performance 

alternators in asynchronous design. Thanks to a highly 

efficient assembly in Germany and the use of kanbancomponents 

GEKO has become the world market leader in 

asynchronous technology

Advantages: 

• Reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emission.

• GEKO offers this patented technology for its complete 

performance rate from 3 kVA to 13 kVA. 

• When a GEKO Silent Economic power generating system 

is used, appliances that demand a high starting current 

start 3 times faster as a regular genset is used to. 

The appliance in the example given above, starts within 

only 0.35 seconds when a GEKO Silent Economic genset 

is used (green graph). 

The same appliance needs 1.1 seconds to start when a 

comparable regular alternator is used (red graph). 

• GEKO Silent Economic power generating system have an 

output voltage of 200 V which enables faster ramping up 

of appliances that demand a high starting current. 

While an appliance is ramping up the voltage drops to 

about 100 V. 

The relatively high residual voltage allows for the 

operation of large inductive appliances. When a load is 

hooked up, competitor gensets sink to about 30 V (red 

graph). The operation of appliances with electromagnetic 

switches or gate leaves is no longer possible. 

Functionality: 

Power generating systems generally are not operated under 

permanent load. Rather shall energy immediately be made 

available on demand in like manner as the mains. A good 

example for this is the working with electric tools on building 

sites or in repair and emergency use.

- Safe implementation of the battery into the switch box to 

protect it from mechanic damage during operation and 

transport. Accidental short-circuit is impossible.

Capacitor module 

A power generating system without GEKO Silent Economic 

technology runs permanently at high speed with accordingly 

high consumption, exhaust emission, loudness and wear. By 

means of the GEKO Silent Economic technology, the speed of 

the engine decreases and will be increased immediately on 

demand of electric energy. Thus, consumption, exhaust 

emission, loudness and wear are drastically reduced. A special 

electronic processor recognizes the operating state of the 

entire genset and controls the running engine by means of 

measuring units and sensors. Thus, the control can 

immediately be active even upon cold start and does not 

require additional operating expenditure. 

The speed of the driving engine will be reduced for approx. 

20% to 40% shortly after the last power output and thus, the 

genset remains in readiness. Only upon necessary power 

output, the engine is raised with lightning speed to nominal 

speed, so that even appliances that demand a high starting 

current may be operated.

Compact GEKO SMD modular construction: gensets with Silent OHV technology engines 

can be retrofitted at any time. Due to its small dimensions the hand-held transmitter can

The MTS is a simple and economical solution of an emergency power supply for every application. After starting

For quick orientation we have provided all gensets types 

described in the catalogue with pictograms. They show 

you at once which genset is most suitable for your 

application. Nevertheless, you should still check the 

required power of all your consumer that you are going 

to supply simultaneously with energy. Only after that 

you can be sure what kind of GEKO genset system 

meets your requirements. Therefore we now give you 

some important advices… 

Please notice that the power of your most powerful 

appliance is not identical with the power supply in VA 

(Voltampere) of a genset. That depends on various 

technical factors which are similar with all gensets. 

A detailed survey requires a lot of technical specification 

and parameters. Therefore we have invented a four step 

solution to verify the genset fitting best to your requirements. 

Ohmic appliances (work-load appliances like hobs, 

heating devices, electric lamps etc.) 

Find out the power value of your most powerful 

appliance or the sum of power values of all appliances 

which are to be supplied with current simultaneously. For 

ohmic consumers Voltampere (VA) means at the same 

time Watt (W) . Now, if you add 10% the required power 

will be supplied by the genset. 

Example: The sum of power to be consumed is 3500 VA 

= 3500 Watt. You need a genset with a minimum of 

(3500 + 10%) = 3850 VA. 

Inductive appliances with a high starting current 

(e.g. angle grinder, circular saws, pumps, 

compressors) 

Such devices require high starting power until they 

reach their normal power consumption. Here you must 

also find out the power value of all appliances connected 

simultaneously. Now you have a choice between two 

generator types: 



-selection guide 

1. Standard units, without starting amplifier 

These are gensets that have just one “A” prior to the 

dash in their designation (example: 3002 E -A / HHBA). 

The current delivered by the genset should 

comprise, without starting amplification the 3fold to 

3.5fold of the power consumption (in some exceptional 

cases up to the 4.5fold of the power consumption). 

Example: The sum of power to be consumed is 1500 VA. 

You need a genset with a minimum 

of (1500 x 3,0 or better 1500 x 3,5) = 5250 VA. 

2. Devices with starting amplifier or synchronous 

alternator 

These are gensets that have in the designation twice the 

letter “A” or the letter “S” prior to the dash (example:

the maximum generator starting current as cos. φ 0,6 

(voltage drop of 20%) with the technical specifications. 

The examples clearly show that with a similar power 

consumption a considerably smaller, lighter and thus 

less expensive but starting amplified device may be 

used. Thus, the standard version should be 

recommended only if exclusively ohmic appliances or 

small inductive appliances are to be supplied with power. 

For the operation of inductive appliances current 

alternators with starting amplifier are ideal and offer 

great advantages compared to synchronous technology 

or inverter technology. 

In case of doubt, you should principally choose the 

genset with the next higher power supply. Then you will 

be on the safe side, risk no breakdowns, and be more 

flexible if a new appliance of higher power consumption 

should be added later. The vast range of GEKO products 

offers you an optimum system. If you have any 

questions, your authorized GEKO sales outlet can give 

you detailed advice.

Alternative power supply in 2-bearing version as an optimum 

connection of available driving units when an alternative requirement 

for an economical energy source is needed. Operation without 

problems via V-belt pulley, V-belt or elastic coupling makes the GEKO 

asynchronous alternator to an universal energy supplier. The alternator 

is delivered complete with capacitors (the version with a starting amplifier 

is additional equipped with a switch box).

Company presentation 

The Manufacturer 

The company “Metallwarenfabrik Gemmingen GmbH” 

manufactures components for electric machines, 

alternators and power generating systems at three 

factories. It was founded in the year 1961. The 

production of pressed and presurre-die cast parts for the 

electric industry was started in the same year. After a 

short period of time, the manufacture of complete IEC 

standard engine types and the development of 

complete problem solutions for the elctric motor 

production, was started. 

In 1982, a new production branch was developed: the 

manufacture of GEKO power generating sets driven by 

petrol or diesel engines. 

Due to political and economical changes, and opening 

of markets in Eastern Europe in the early 90s, a new 

company was founded in Hungary for the production 

of pressure-die cast parts. 

From construction to manufacture, the staff of 

approximately 350 persons render the best possible 

service, appreciated throughout the world. Everything 

comes from one hand. Latest production techniques, 

storage and communication technologies enable quick 

delivery of all parts. Our company has been specializing 

for many years in everything dealing with the subject 

of power generation, and much experience and 

research have been acquired.

Due to this experience, the advice of GEKO spcialists 

is internationally acknowledged in the field of alternator 

construction for complex special products as well as 

complex military applications. The high requirements to 

the product, the multiplem problem solutions elaborated 

by GEKO engineers and technichians have constant

Experience and knowledge, constructive ideas and 

practicorientated research are put into the product types 

which stand on the highest level and are highly reliable .

The high requirements internationally connected with 

“Made in Germany” still serves Geko as a challenge for

GEKO power gensets pass many quality checks during 

manufacture. The components have to pass the hardest 

functional tests on modern test standards. The system of 

quality provision is based on the standard ISO 9001:2008 

and on standard AQAP-130 in the military field. 

Such a guarantee can only be given by a manufacturer 

who by its thorough workmanship and emphasis on good 

quality in the production process ensures reliable 

functionality of their product range. 

Should any defect occur nevertheless, GEKO will solve 

the problem as quickly as possible.

contact partner for purchase and service. You will find
