"Steubenville City Choir News:
In addition to the ordination Mass of May 30th the Choir has
been asked by Bishop Conlon to take part in the Faith in the
Future Prayer Service at Holy Name Cathedral on Friday, May 1.
The Choir also was asked to sing for the Catholic Central Baccalaureate
on Tuesday, May 26. The schedule is as follows:

There were many compliments about the Choir after the
Chrism Mass, and I hope we can have even more members for

MAY CROWNING CEREMONY: We will honor
our Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, on Mother’s
day, Sunday May 10th. Our May Crowning ceremonies
will take place after the 10:00 a.m. Mass
at Holy Rosary Church and after the 10:30 a.m.
Mass at Holy Name Cathedral. If the weather
permits, we will use the outside statues.
On this day we invite the children who were confirmed and made
their First Communion this year to have a special role in the ceremony.
Dressed in their First Communion attire, we will invite
them to come to the front of the church at the end of Mass and
follow the cross and candles to the statue. One of the girls will
do the crowning and one of the boys will carry the crown. We
invite everyone coming to those Masses to bring flowers to be
placed at the statues.
Next weekend (May 2 nd and 3 rd ) we will place a form at the entrance
of the church for the First Communion children to register
for the Mass that they will be attending. At the end of Mass on
May 10 th we will draw names to see who will crown the statue
and who will carry the crown. (Note that the child must be registered
before May 7 th to be eligible.)
Summer Picnic: As a follow up social to the “February Thaw”,
which was a great success, our parish has
scheduled a summer picnic. The date is Sunday
July 12, at the Follansbee Community
Park. A few good men and women (couples
also welcome) are needed to plan the event.
A planning session will be scheduled as soon as volunteers come
forward. Let’s all pitch in and make this summer picnic one to
remember. Please call Don Coen (264-0155) if you can help out
with this fun event.
PARISH ENVELOPES: You will be receiving fewer envelopes in
your monthly packets. The “Maintenance Fund” envelope will no
longer be included. Only a few people used this envelope. This
money was also being placed into the “general account.” We ask
that you simply place your “Maintenance Fund” contribution in
your regular Sunday envelope.
Also, you will no longer be receiving the “National Special
Collection” envelopes in your packets. We receive envelopes
from the national organizations. We will place these envelopes in
the bulletin for you to use.
Why the change To save money for the parish and not
waste the envelopes which are mailed to us from the national
organizations. We are trying to think “green.”

Baptism – Baptism Preparation Sessions are held the
1 st Sunday of each month from 2 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the
Marian Room at Holy Rosary Church. Please call the Parish
Office to register for a class.
Weddings – Six month preparation required.
Schedule the date with the priest.
Funerals – Please schedule with the priest before
publishing dates and times.
Anointing of the Sick – Please call the Parish Office.

A training session for new servers will be held this Sunday,
April 26 th at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church. This
training will be for all youth who are currently 4 th graders or
older and are committed to being a faithful server. This
training is for Triumph of the Cross Parish and therefore is for
those who will be serving at either Holy Name Cathedral or
Holy Rosary Church.
We need to have three servers for every Sunday Mass so that
we can properly do our processions with cross and candles.
Eventually we would like to have special serving teams for
solemnities and special occasions. A server greatly enhances
the praying of the Mass.
CATHOLIC SCHOOLS INFORMATION
Bishop Mussio Schools run a SCRIP Program that sells gift
cards for many restaurants, retailers and services. Cards are
available for gas, groceries, and everyday items. You can
help the parish pay its assessment to the school by using SCRIP

want the credit given to #5. A percentage of your purchase
will go to help our parish pay our school assessment. It's easy

Faith in the Future Mass: A Mass to pray for economic development
will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00pm, at Sacred
Heart Church in Hopedale. Fr. Timothy McGuire will be the
celebrant. A reception with time for fellowship will follow the

Knights of Columbus: On Sunday May 17th, the Knight of Columbus,
Council # 11828 will hold a pancake breakfast in Holy
Family's Malara Hall to benefit the Holy Family Building fund. The
Breakfast will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The cost will be $6
per adult, $3 per Child with the maximum family rate of $24.

Activities and Information
MASS FOR HEALING: There will be a Mass for Healing at
Blessed Sacrament Parish in Wintersville on Tuesday, April 28 th
at 7:00 p.m. The celebrant will be Fr. Michael Scanlon, T.O.R.
Community of God’s Love Music Ministry will provide the liturgical
music. All are invited. Individuals will be prayed with for healing
after Mass.
ENGAGED ENCOUNTER: Do you know a couple that is engaged
Here is an opportunity for them to spend a weekend
away to prepare for their lifetime commitment with a Catholic
Engaged Encounter. The weekend of November 20-22, 2009.
This is held at Paul VI Center in Wheeling, WV. For information

“MOVE IT OUT” This is the title of one of the books published
by Fr. Tom Forrest, C.Ss.R. who provided our parish mission.
You may have heard his talks live or maybe you have listened to
them on-line at our parish website. This book provides a greater
explanation of the topics that he shared with us during the presentations.
We have arranged to have this book offered to you at
the simple cost of $10.00. You will find these books at the front
entrance of the church. In it there will be an envelope. To purchase
this book, enclose the $10.00 in the envelope and place it
in the collection. The subtitle is “Sharing the Mission of Christ
with Zeal.”
Activities and Information
The Franciscan Women’s Scholarship Guild is hosting their
annual spring event, “Spring into Spring” on Tuesday, May 12 at
5:30 pm at Franciscan University in the Gentile Gallery. The proceeds
from this event fund scholarships for women from the local
area who are considered “nontraditional” students.
Admission is $5.00 and includes a light dinner, Chinese auction,
raffle awards of $100, $150, and $250, and a very fun fashion

Bishop’s call to abstain from eating meat on all Fridays as prayer
and witness for human life. “Abstinence itself can be offered
consciously as a prayer for life and in reparation for sins against
life.” “We must continue to teach the truth about life without
ceasing and without hesitancy. But actions speak louder than
words. Abstinence from meat on Fridays, for the sake of life, is
one such action, especially when done in solidarity with one another.”

SPRING CLEANING
Fr. Nau and Fr. Moore are asking you, members of Triumph of the Cross
Parish, to assist on the following dates with special cleaning projects.
Holy Rosary Auditorium
Saturday – May 9 th beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Saturday – May 16 th beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Each day it would be helpful if you bring buckets, rags, ladders, and anything
you might use at home doing your spring cleaning. We have chosen
these dates to welcome ladies from throughout the Diocese for the
CWC Convention at Holy Rosary Auditorium.
PARISH RECEPTIONS: Our coordinators, their
assistants and the many individuals who made donations
to recent receptions that were held a Holy
Name Cathedral during the past two weeks are to be
complimented on the wonderful work that they did.
Your expression of hospitality to our parishioners and
the many visitors is greatly appreciated.
If you made donations of cookies and cakes
at these receptions or even to the February Thaw,
the plates and dishes that were not picked up can be
picked up at the parish office (M-F,9-4)
Respect for Life: “Researchers Find Safer Methods to Reprogram
Adult Stem cells.” This recent headline describing
adult stem cell research that does not involve
killing embryos joins those announcing
breakthroughs with adult stem cells from bone
marrow, skin, and placentas. Meanwhile the world
of embryonic stem cell research keeps demanding
more money while producing negligible results.
