Memorial Day Service
The Knights of Columbus will hold its annual Memorial Day
Mass Monday, May 31st, at 11:00 A.M. at the Coronation Mausoleum
at Mount Calvary Cemetery, in Steubenville. All are welcome.
First Saturday Cenacle
First Saturday “Light of the World” Cenacle June 7 will follow
the 8:30AM Mass at Holy Rosary in the Marian Room. The First
Saturday Intention is to make reparation for the insults, sacrileges
and indifferences committed against the Immaculate
Heart of Mary. During this one hour video presentation of the
Apostolate for Family Consecration we will pray the Rosary as
Our Lady requested at Fatima. Light refreshments will be
served. Come, and bring a friend.
Brothers’ Anniversary
This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the
Brothers of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the Diocese of
Steubenville. On the Feast of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary, May 31,
Bishop Conlon will celebrate Mass for
the brothers at Holy Name Cathedral
at 10:00 a.m. You are cordially invited

These brothers are the only order of
diocesan brothers we have, and they
have served the Church of Steubenville

5K Run Invitation
In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Holy Family Parish will
have a 5k run June 28th. It will start at 9:00 am for runners 13
years of age or older. The cost is $15 for a single runner, $25
for couples and $5 for youth ages 13 to 17. A T-Shirt is included.

Rest in Peace
We offer our condolences to the families of Joseph Aquino and
Carlo Antonucci both of whom were buried from St. Anthony’s

Mass for Healing
There will be a Holy Mass for Healing at Holy Rosary Church
Wednesday, May 28th at 7:00 in the evening. The celebrant
will be Fr. Michael Scanlan, T.O.R. Community of God's Love
Music Ministry will provide the liturgical music. All are invited.
Individuals will be prayed with for healing after Mass. All are

Stewardship Moment
God sent His only Son so that He might be
present to us in a way in which we could
relate in the person of Jesus. In turn Jesus
gave us the gift of the Eucharist, that he
might be present to us always. In the Eucharistic prayer at
Mass, what was once ordinary bread and wine is transformed
into the body and blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Good
stewards understand that when they leave the Eucharistic
celebration, they
bring Christ’s very presence, his peace and his healing to a
broken world. After participating in the Mass, how do we

The Gospel of Life
On January 17, 2008, the biotech company Stemagen announced
the first cloning of human embryos by fusing donated
egg cells with DNA from skin cells of an adult man.
When scientists clone human beings for research purposes,
they fail to recognize that “the artificial creation of a human
life for the sole purpose of her exploitation and destruction
will always be gravely unethical” since it “sanctions the direct
and explicit exploitation of one human being by another, in
this case, the exploitation of the weak by the powerful.” Family
Research Council, Stem Cell Research, Cloning & Human
Embryos.
A Word from Fr. McGuire
Bishop Conlon would very much have liked to be present
at all six parishes’ final Masses. However, there was no
way to accomplish that without closing parishes on different
weekends. That was deemed not possible. His decision was to
therefore celebrate Masses only in the buildings that will be
closed: St. Anthony’s, St. Pius X, and St. Stanislaus.
There is no “official rite” for closing a parish (the people)
or a church (the building). What needs to be done is a
pastoral decision—what will be most helpful to the people
Therefore, each parish has answered that question as their
pastoral councils thought best.
When a church building is closed the Blessed Sacra-

ment must be removed and the building must be secured
against desecration such as theft or vandalism. Sacred objects
such as chalices, monstrances, ciboria, etc. must be secured.
Remember that not all objects in a church building are sacred.
Those that have handled the Body and Blood of Christ certainly
are. Vestments, missalettes and chairs are not.
The property of the closing parishes (assets and liabilities)
becomes the property of the new parish. Some of
the objects in the various churches have already been designated
for use in the future cathedral building. These objects
will be placed in storage.
It will be the responsibility of the new pastor, in conjunction
with the TOTC Pastoral Council and the Diocese, to
decide what should be done with the remainder.
The current pastors’ recommendation to the new
pastor will be that he have all items appraised (they have already
been inventoried) and sell what can be appropriately
sold, with the former parishioners of the closed parish being
given the first option. The second option would go to parishes
within the Diocese of Steubenville.
There is a market out there for used ecclesiastical
objects, and our goal would be to raise money to pay off our
debts and to finance a new church.
Please remember that six parishes (the People of
God) will be closed. The churches (the buildings) retain their
original designation. Therefore, we will be “Triumph of the
Cross Parish meeting at Holy Name Cathedral Church” or
“Triumph of the Cross Parish meeting at Holy Rosary Church”.

Life Teen/Edge News
During the summer months, Life Nights become
Summer Nights. These more informal sessions will be on
Sunday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00pm in the Life Center at
Holy Family Church.
There will be a mandatory meeting of all Life Teen/
Edge youth attending the Franciscan Youth Conference along
with their parents on Sunday, June 1 at Holy Family Church in
the Life Center. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare the
youth for the conference and to have the parents sign the
necessary release
forms. No one will
be permitted to attend
the conference
without the release
forms even if they
paid in full.

St. Anthony Parish will not run a normal Mass schedule
the weekend of Jun 7-8. There will be only one Mass:
11:30 am, Sunday. Prior to that Mass, celebrated by Bishop
Conlon, there will be a solemn procession with the statue of
St. Anthony. After the Mass there will also be a procession.
The congregation will gather outside for a final prayer and
proceed to the school building for a meal together.
In order to properly prepare for the social following
the final Mass on Sunday, June8th, there is a sign-up list in
the vestibule. If you plan to partake in the social please sign
the list and complete all the information requested. Participants
are asked to provide a dessert and/or beverage. If
there is anyone who is not able to sign the list in the vestibule,

weekend of Jun 7-8. There will be only one Mass: 9:30 am,
Sunday. During that Mass, celebrated by Bishop Conlon, there
will be a solemn closing of the sacramental registers (baptism,
confirmation, communion, marriage, death) and remembrance
of all those who have celebrated life, love and death in
our parish over the years. After the Mass, there will be a meal
provided by the CWC in the hall. Reservations are now being

Observance of Parish Closure
Servants of Christ the King will observe a normal Mass schedule
the weekend of June 7-8. After the Mass, there will be a
pot-luck social following the closing Mass for the Servants of
Christ the King Parish on June 8. Please sign-up in the back

Observance of Parish Closing
Holy Rosary Parish will run a normal weekend Mass schedule
June 7-8. At each Mass there will be a solemn closing of one
sacramental register (baptism, confirmation, communion,
marriage, death) and remembrance of all those who have
celebrated life, love and death in our parish over the years.
Following the 11:30 Mass there will be a picnic/social on the
grounds and hall. Those who attend are asked to bring a dessert
to share with the group.
