Modernism Week is once again here
in our “Valley Of The Arts”. We are
unique in the fact that so much of
our architecture is in the style of
Modernism, from commercial to
residential.
Chris Mobley really has been instrumental in bringing
this week together. Here is a fun fact for our desert
valley: Modernism Week brings in all together 17 million
in added money, during this week long event. Lon
Michels Gallery is proud and honored to have 2 artist
receptions back to back during this fantastic week. The
first exhibition is Friday the 13th with Carrie Graber.
Her show is titled “Beauty & Modernism”, oil on canvas.
Carrie has infused brilliance and color into architecture
and modernism, into her paintings. The combination of
people and architecture painted in her paintings comes
alive in a dreamy way, captured in light and shadows.
Carrie has also become a vocal supporter to save many
iconic treasures of architecture in L A and Palm Springs.
Her father has taught art for many years in the public
schools in Riverside, CA. Carrie’s show runs from Feb. 4th
to Feb. 27th. Please see Carrie’s show in the official guide

Alexis Hunter and Socrates also have a two women
exhibition the following day titled, “Valentines Day
Party”, Champagne and Chocolate. Both women create
exquisite jewelry with artistry on display, and for a special
bonus, their abstract paintings on exhibit as well at the
Lon Michaels Gallery. They are also donating a portion
of their sales to the Desert Blind and Handicapped
Association. The amazing Simeon Den from Hawaii,
will be performing a artistic dance presentation with
cello. He will be adorned with the artist’s jewelry. This
performance artist is spectacular! This all takes place Feb.
14th, Valentines Day night, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Please
look for the Hollywood lights on North Palm Canyon for
the party and exhibition at Lon Michels Gallery! Bring a
Sweet Tooth!
Lon and myself were delighted and grateful to be in the
current show, entitled, “Feast For The Eyes”, now at
University Of Riverside CA, Palm Desert Campus (Cook
St. and Frank Sinatra). The exhibition was curated by
the Barone’s. Delightfully, a large wall displayed their
beautiful works with a sculpture in the middle of the
space. Please see this show! It is amazing to see 14
artists come together, and bring food to life in a seductive
way that only art can do. Lon and myself have a side by
side painting of the same subject matter on display, which
we painted at the same time with our stunning models.
