maximal reliability regarding delivery 

times – despite seasonal peaks, owing to 

customer demand. 

Computer-controlled processes organize 

the whole transport chain and make the 

work flows in dispatch and factory logistics 

transparent. 

The logistic requirements

• Peak output of 200 trucks, or more than 5,000 pallets per day

Our research for your development 

To ensure that you can meet even the highest demands of customers looking for the best possible 

products, we continually improve our range for hobby gardeners. We do this by utilizing the results of 

our knowledge and developments that have been gained from the specialist horticulture department. 

In this regard, our on-site laboratory is one essential building-block for genuine innovations, as well as 

the centrally-located experimenting and testing greenhouse. A special Floragard benefit: numerous 

decades of experience gained from professional horticulture have gone into the development of new 

premium soils. This is the only way for unique products, such as the new organic range or the peat-free 

soils, to be developed.

Quality control at our laboratory 

Homogeneous soil mixtures with constantly high quality and maximum security for our customers are 

our ultimate ambition. 

Intensive and permanent quality controls as well as continuous surveillance of the production process 

in our modern manufacturing plants are therefore in particular focus. This does not only include the 

control of all incoming raw materials and additives but also tests with respect to pH-value, nutrient 

and salt content, structure, wettability and plant compatibility as part of the production and quality 

control.

»Peat harvest in harmony with nature

Peat is a unique raw material 

About 90% of the high-quality peat reserves found in Germany come from Lower Saxony, the 

home of Floragard. Only about 10% of these can be 

used for peat cutting. Approximately 58% of the total 

surface is used for agriculture, for example as pastures 

and cropland. 32% are natural and near-natural high 

fens, as well as bent and forest surfaces that are not 

available for usage or peat production. 

Thus, only 1% is available for active peat harvesting. 

In Germany, strict natural conservation acts regulate 

the commercial peat harvest. Industrial exploitation 

concessions are only granted subsequent to the 

careful consideration of all environmental aspects. 

Floragard supports these measures unreservedly, and only uses surfaces for peat harvest that have 

been drained many decades ago for agricultural and settlement purposes. Naturally, intact fens 

remain untouched. 

Visible success for nature conservation 

Subsequent to the peat harvesting efforts, the surfaces are 

once again rewetted in accordance with the “Niedersächsisches 

Moorschutzprogramm” (Lower Saxony Fens Protection Programme). 

Floragard is highly committed to renaturation and, thanks to many 

years of experience in this field, has developed special and scientifically 

recognized methods for this. Thus, in the foreseeable future, the 

fens-typical vegetation can once again grow. Some of these surfaces 

have even become nature conservation areas. Success-stories of this 

commitment and the renaturation methods can be viewed in the 

Nature Protection Information Centre Goldenstedter Moor, close 

to Vechta. Thus, previously intensively utilized grassland, especially 

used for agricultural purposes, is once again turned into ecologically 

valuable wetlands, with the possibility of these later turning into fens 

once again. To date, 28,000 hectares have been released for peat 

harvesting. Until the end of 2005, renaturation measures have been 

carried out on 11,000 of these hectares. Until such time as the latest 

ending of the 

harvesting will have 

been reached in 

2050, approximately 

23,000 hectares 

will have been 

renatured.
