Workshop on Outcomes-Based Teaching & Learning
(OBTLA & Outcomes-Based Assessment-Grading
This workshop aims to assist you in identifying and practising the most
relevant and constructively aligned assessment tasks (ATs)and
instructional/teaching learning activities (TLAs) for the course you will be
teaching this coming semester.
Outcomes of the workshop are: Upon completion of the workshop,
participants will be able to:
1. Compare & contrast between the transmittalist and the Student-
Centered-Learning (SCL or Active Learning-AL) Instructional
strategies.
2. Propose and communicate (verbally and in writing) constructively
aligned Outcomes-Based Teaching & Learning Activities (OBTLAs)
you will employ for the course and for the first 2 units of the course
you will be teaching next semester.
3. Explain the models and approaches of outcomes-based assessment
(OBAs)
4. Describe the characteristics and processes of outcomes-based
assessment
5. Reflect the present assessment models, approaches and processes
of the course you had taught.
6. Propose and justify the assessment models, approaches and
processes for the course you will be teaching.
7. Develop and communicate (verbally and in writing) constructively
aligned assessment tasks, the assessment weightage for the tasks,
the performance criteria and the standards (rubrics) for the course
you will be teaching.
The outcomes above are very demanding and challenging to achieve in a
2-days workshop but I shall try to facilitate its accomplishment. The
achievement can be realized if all participants commit their time, energy
and passion towards the goal. Hence, the activities will require
involvement of ALL the participants. This workshop is for those who are
ready to implement the paradigm shift strategies towards a more
accountable graduates who will be more employable aligned with the
objectives of the program, the vision & mission of the university and the
attributes required in the Higher Education Transformational Plan.
Participants are highly encouraged to bring their laptops so that they can
work on the materials for their own course. Each participant will need to
have a set of course outcomes that has been identified to assure
achievement of the POs. They must also bring a set of lesson outcomes
for the first 2 units of learning in preparation for the workshop.

Day 1:
9:00-10:30am Science research on Metacognition & the Learning
Process
10:30-11:00am Coffee Break
11:00am-12:00 Best practices in SCL-TLA.
12:00-1:00 Breakout into groups to propose OBTLAs
1:00-2:15pm Lunch Break
2:15-3:45pm Breakout into groups to propose OBTLA
3:45-4:15pm Coffee Break
4:15-5:30pm Presentation by groups (volunteer)
Day 2:
9:00-10:30am Theory on assessment-approaches, models, processes,
methods, ATs, OBA & OBG
10:30-11:00am Coffee Break
11:00am-12:00 Breakout into groups to reflect on the present & propose
ATs & methods for the future
12:00-1:00 Continue groups activity: Propose weightage, OBG
1:00-2:15pm Lunch Break
2:15-3:45pm Continue groups activity: Propose rubrics
3:45-4:15pm Coffee Break
4:15-5:30pm Presentation by groups (volunteer)
Requirements:
• If possible, a monitor for each group or if participants can bring LCD
from faculty, it can be used for their group during discussion (FSG
groups).
• Laptops for each participant (they bring their own)
• Plug points for each participant (supply enough extension cords
without causing a blackout)
• Sufficient or comfortable space for participants & me to move
around.
• Some papers for the groups to use during discussion.

for the group tasks as well
