This is the 50th anniversary of graduation<br />

president, Col. Emest<br />

and according to class<br />

F. Dukes, "we can never have another 50th<br />

reunion." Everyone should make an effort to<br />

be back on the Hill for Alumni Day, May<br />

31, even if you can't make it for the whole<br />

weekend. There will be a reunion luncheon<br />

at the Historical House on Saturday, More<br />

infonnation about the whole weekend will<br />

be sent later this winter. Mrs. Clara Smoot<br />

Hammond died May 22.... Samuel F. M.<br />

Adkins died November 10 Peninsula General<br />

in<br />

Hospital, Salisbury, after a long illness.<br />

Mr. Adkins was president of E. S. Adkins<br />

Co., building materials finn. He was a memo<br />

her of the advisory board of the First National<br />

Bank of Maryland, a member of the<br />

board of the Peninsula General Hospital.<br />

and a fermer director of the Middle Atlantic<br />

Lumbermen's Association.<br />

Lester A. Twigg died September 28 at the<br />

Carroll County General Hospital. Mr. Twigg<br />

had been a member of the Federal Bureau<br />

of Investigation and the United States Department<br />

of Agriculture. He was president<br />

of the Class of 1916, president of the Irving<br />

captain of the<br />

Society, Intercollegiate Orator,<br />

football team and twice selected for the AlI-<br />

Maryland team ..<br />

Commencement Period, May 29-June I<br />

Don't confine your visit to Saturday. Plan<br />

now to get here Friday afternoon and stay<br />

through commencement on Monday. You'll<br />

enjoy every minute of it and relive in the<br />

present the activities of forty-five years ago.<br />

Dormitory and dining hall reservations can<br />

be made later on forms to be mailed from<br />

the Alumni Office. On Saturday there will<br />

he a class luncheon, tours of the old and the<br />

new, greeting of old friends, and in the evening<br />

the Alumni Dinner with class songs,<br />

yells, etc. Remember, we'll see everyone if<br />

each attends. Wives and husbands are, of<br />

course, cordially invited.<br />

FORTY YEARS AGO It is hard to believe<br />

that 40 years have passed since the<br />

Class of 1924, diplomas in hand, left College<br />

bravely to face the challenges<br />

Hill joyously and<br />

of a new world. Many changes have<br />

taken place since that happy day. We have<br />

faced joy and sorrow, success and failure.<br />

Our ranks have been thinned by the Grim<br />

Reaper. Still, I am sure most of us will<br />

admit, our stay at Western Maryland has<br />

contributed greatly to whatever of worthwhile<br />

ness we have fonnd in life.<br />

What a wonderful opportunity our FOR-<br />

TIETH ANNIVERSARY affords us of gathering<br />

together during Commencement 1964<br />

to renew old acquaintances, reminisce a bit,<br />

and receive new inspiration through our<br />

Means to Me" at the Turf Valley dinner.<br />

Class president Roedel Jaeger reminds all<br />

of us, -ru, June we will celebrate our 30th<br />

reunion and I'd like as many you as of<br />

possible to return to the Hill. We had 38<br />

present at our 25th reunion, so let's have<br />

Kiefer is a Dick grandfather! Daughter<br />

Linda had a little girl. This news was written<br />

up in the October issue under Sue<br />

Cockey Kiefer, '33, but Dick says he lays<br />

Nellie Lee Williams is serving a Methodist<br />

church in Grant Town, West Virginia. She<br />

is an ordained minister. Imogene- Clifford<br />

Watson died in November.<br />

1940<br />

Col. Webster R. Hood is G-4 of the 2nd<br />

Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North<br />

Carolina. His wife (Doris Mathias) writes<br />

that Mike (14) is in the junior-senior high<br />

school on the base and Susan is at High<br />

Point College as a freshman. .. Col. C.<br />

Malcolm Kullmar died August 15 Dledel, in<br />

bach, Germany. He was commander of the<br />

3rd Infantry Brigade.<br />

1944<br />

This is the year for the 20th REUNION.<br />

May 31 is the day to plan to be back on the<br />

Hill-more information later. The class needs<br />

a volunteer as Class Secretary .... Mr. and<br />

Mrs. EdwarM (Dottie Rooecamp) and their<br />

4 children are spending a year in Bouler,<br />

Colorado. John is participating in an Academic<br />

Year Institute at the University. He is<br />

on leave of absence from Graceland College<br />

in Lamoni, Iowa, where he is an instructor<br />

in biology ..<br />
