Dear High School Parents/Guardians,<br />

<strong>Welcome</strong> to <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Orion</strong> High School, 9 th <strong>Grade</strong> and the 2013/14 school year! I hope you have been<br />

enjoying the summer together as a family. We are very excited about the start of a new school year and<br />

look forward to seeing you at Registration on Thursday, August 22 nd !<br />

Please check the <strong>Lake</strong> <strong>Orion</strong> High School website for pertinent dates during the school year. The following<br />

dates are of special interest that will quickly be approaching:<br />

August 29 Freshman First Day 7:30 am – 9:56 am<br />

September 3 First Day of School 7:30 am – 2:30 pm<br />

September 10 Curriculum Night TBD<br />

In an attempt to be more efficient with time and resources, we will continue this year with our online<br />

paperwork registration process. Available on our website are the majority of forms you will need for<br />

registration. You will be able to go to your students’ grade level and see the appropriate forms that you will<br />

need. Please take the time to read all of the attachments, print the forms you will need, fill them out, and<br />

bring them with you on August 22 nd . In the event that you are unable to print the forms at home, we will<br />

have copies available in the main office.<br />

At the beginning of August, you will be mailed your students emergency card. Please review it,<br />

make any necessary changes and sign it on the back. Also please note, pictures are taken during<br />

registration and the picture packets are being mailed separately from the company, Lifetouch Studios,<br />

again this year.<br />

Registration Information – The registration schedule is as follows for the 2013/2014 school year. Please<br />

stop by any time between the times indicated for each grade level.<br />

12 th <strong>Grade</strong> Monday, August 19 th 9:00 – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 3:00 pm<br />

11 th <strong>Grade</strong> Tuesday, August 20 th 9:00 – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 3:00 pm<br />

10 th <strong>Grade</strong> Wednesday, August 21 st 9:00 – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 3:00 pm<br />

9 th <strong>Grade</strong> Thursday, August 22 nd 9:00 – 12:00 pm and 1:00 – 3:00 pm<br />

Make-up day Monday, August 26 th 9:00 – 12:00 pm only<br />

During registration, student planners and schedules will be distributed and lockers will be assigned.<br />

It is important to note that in order to pick up a schedule at registration, all forms must be<br />

completed. Emergency Cards with a parent signature must be updated before schedules and<br />

lockers are provided. Your preparation and assistance in having forms completed before registration is<br />

appreciated and will make it faster and more convenient for everyone.<br />

Freshman Academy 2013-2014 School Year – This transition year is important because it is the year<br />

that has the greatest influence on a student’s high school career. During part of the freshman’s day, he/she<br />

will be assigned to a team of teachers that represent some of the student’s core and elective classes.<br />

(Freshman students will have no more than 6 classes in their schedule)<br />

Freshman First Day – Every year we provide Freshman the opportunity to become familiar with LOHS<br />

though Freshman First Day. It will be on August 29 th from 7:30 – 9:56am. Please review the Freshman<br />

First Day <strong>Letter</strong> for specific schedule details and necessary information.<br />

First Day of School – The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3, 2013. The school day is from 7:30 –<br />

2:30pm with Wednesdays being a delayed start schedule of 9:43-2:30pm. Please remind your student to<br />

bring his/her planner from Registration on the first day of school.<br />

Transportation – Your student will receive information in the mail regarding transportation times two<br />

weeks before school begins. Transportation can be contacted at 248.391.5455 if necessary.<br />

I am very excited to see each of you for the start of a wonderful new school year! Working together, the<br />

2013 – 2014 school year will be a successful one for each and every student. We wish you an enjoyable time<br />

for the remainder of your summer break. See you soon!<br />
