The Sea Ray story began more than 50 years ago, in 

1959, when founder C.N. Ray inspired a great tradition 

of building superior-quality boats. From the start, 

Sea Ray was focused on the meticulous craft of making 

the best vessels available. C.N. took a longitudinal view

Quality 

BY DESIGN 

Sea Ray has invested more capital into computer-aided 

design (CAD) and construction technology in the last 

15 years than any other boat builder, and we have one 

of the largest patent portfolios in the global marine 

community. 

All Sea Ray boats exceed the regulations of the U.S. 

Coast Guard and the standards and recommended 

practices of the National Marine Manufacturers 

Association (NMMA) and American Boat and Yacht 

Council (ABYC). In addition, all models are certified to 

carry the CE Mark for distribution in the European Union.

STERNDRIVE VS. INBOARD 

ADJUSTABLE TRIM 

A Sea Ray outdrive can be tilted up or down to perfect the running attitude 

of the boat. This can shorten planing time, improve top speed, help the 

helmsman achieve smooth running in variable water conditions, and allow 

sculpting of the wake for flatness or fatness. Inboards and V-drives in tow 

boats cannot be trimmed, offering less versatility and efficiency. 

MORE EFFICIENT OPERATION 

Our Sport Boats will typically go faster at any given RPM than an inboard or 

V-drive towboat of equivalent size and horsepower because the boat’s trim 

and thrust can be optimized. This means that the Sea Ray also uses less

EXCELLENT MANEUVERABILITY 

With a sterndrive boat, you are steering the running gear for excellent 

maneuverability at all speeds in all directions. In contrast, with a single 

engine inboard or V-drive boat, you are steering the rudder. Therefore, it 

can be harder to turn against the rotation of the propeller and the boat will 

go in reverse to one direction only, no matter the position of the wheel.

Our sterndrive-powered Sport Boats utilize a deep-V hull with a transom 

deadrise up to 21 degrees, allowing it to cut through waves and rough 

water. By comparison, most inboard towboats have much flatter bottoms 

that can result in a bone jarring experence. Additionally our Sport Boats 

also have more freeboard than comparable inboard towboats and have 

more versatile cockpit seating and entertainment features. This means 

drier, safer, more comfortable boating excursions. 

Inboard 

Despite the claims of inboard towboat manufacturers, swimmers 

are in no more danger from a sterndrive-powered boat. Why 

Because a boat’s engine should never be running when a swimmer 

is in the water and in close proximity to the vessel..

our Sport Boat models. These road warriors feature a V-frame design to keep each boat’s 

center of gravity as low as possible, resulting in a better ride and easier loading and 

unloading. The company uses a special powder-coating system for a deep luster, and 

its trailers also boast welded steel frames, giving them a smooth look as well as extra
