When required, the wood we use comes<br />

from sustainable resources with a<br />

confirmed ‘‘chain of custody’’ through<br />

the CSA (Canadian Standards<br />

Association)/FSC (Forest Stewardship<br />

Council)/SFI (Sustainable Forestry<br />

Initiative).<br />

<strong>Levolux</strong> generally recommends<br />

Western Red Cedar, air-dried vertical<br />

grain No.2 clear and better only for<br />

exterior applications, as it is:<br />

Readily available.<br />

Stable and durable.<br />

Relatively light weight.<br />

Able to be installed without the<br />

application of any surface finish<br />

(And over time, it takes on an<br />

attractive silvery grey colour).<br />

Other species of wood can be<br />

considered - including Siberian Larch,<br />

European Oak and most recently<br />

Thermowood.<br />

Support components<br />

Aluminum: in mill, anodised, or polyester<br />

powder coated finish.<br />

Steel: as stainless steel or mild steel<br />

with a galvanised and/or multi-pack<br />

paint finish.

System Construction<br />

The main components of the <strong>Levolux</strong><br />

<strong>Wood</strong> Louver System are:<br />

First fix bracket, support arms, and support<br />

structure - in steel or extruded aluminum.<br />

<strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Louvers</strong> - one-piece solid wood<br />

sections up to a maximum width of12 inches.<br />

Laminated, wider <strong>Louvers</strong> can be produced<br />

following discussion.<br />

In all cases, the option exists to join <strong>Louvers</strong><br />

edge to edge to achieve large widths or<br />

to combine them with steel or aluminum<br />

creating a visually less dense construction.<br />

Walkway (optional) - extruded aluminium<br />

‘J’ sections for maintenance.<br />

Controls (optional) - various types are<br />

available to provide manual, motorised<br />

or a fully automated system.<br />

Below are some of the <strong>Wood</strong> Louver<br />

profiles which have been previously used.<br />

Other shapes can be supplied or fabricated<br />

depending on the need of the project.<br />

The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) in<br />

Rainham, Essex has been fitted with a total of 600 <strong>Levolux</strong> <strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Louvers</strong>.<br />

The Western Red Cedar <strong>Louvers</strong>, which were 11 x 2 inches were used in<br />

10 foot bays along the 500 foot length of the curved façade.<br />

China Shipping’s HQ at Felixstowe has 12 inch wide x10foot long elliptical<br />

Western Red Cedar <strong>Louvers</strong>, mounted horizontally between bespoke<br />

one-piece tapered columns which measure 33 feet in height, as well as 4 levels<br />

of 12 inch vertically mounted <strong>Louvers</strong> on its curved façade.<br />

The Visage building at Swiss Cottage has 4 levels of 15 inch vertically stacked<br />

<strong>Wood</strong> <strong>Louvers</strong> fitted to 3 elevations. A total of 165 <strong>Levolux</strong> <strong>Wood</strong> Louver<br />

panels were also installed at roof level in widths of up to 16 feet.
