Easter
more than bunnies and chocolate
eggs…
EASTER GAME
The story of Easter, as a Christian religious Celebration of
the resurrection of Jesus from the death, is to many wellknown.
This was celebrated under the name of Pascha long
time before the period got its name Easter.
Nevertheless, the origin of Easter and its tradition of the
Easter Bunny bringing
chocolate eggs as a
symbol of fertility and
new beginnings is most
probably less know.
The English word
‗Easter‘ has its origin in
the an glo- s ax o n
‗Eostre‘, which is related
to the old name
of the month of April
‗Eostur-monath‘, meaning the month of openings. This has
again been named after the anglo-saxon goddess Eostre.
The legend tells that this goddess once found a little
wounded bird and in order to help it survive the cold winter,
she transformed it into a hare. This hare found out that it
could lay eggs; so these he decorated each spring and left
them as an offering to the goddess.
JCI Luxembourg wishes all its members and friends the
brightest Easter-days.
from paperJam , who
clearly illustrated it giving
and value of design to busi-
ness and society in Luxembourg.
The idea behind the exhibition
OUR MEMBERS
Success Story
The Executive Vice President of JCI Luxembourg
becomes board member of the IBCL
Pedro Castilho, Executive
Vice President 2009 of JCI
Luxembourg, has recently
been appointed
member of the board of
directors of the newly created
Indian Business Chamber
of Luxembourg. He
shares the board with
Sudhir Kohli, the president
of IBCL, and Jim Penning,
the Vice president.
The official launch took
place at the Luxemburgish
Business Chamber, where
almost 300 guests welcomed
the new bilateral
business structure in
the presence of Mr. Pierre
Gramegna, the president of
the Luxemburgish Business
Chamber and Mr. Jean Asselborn,
the Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Immigration.
Asked about his involvement
in IBCL, Pedro
said, that "it's the matter of
fact, that Mr Sudhir asked
me to join him because of
my involvement in JCI and
particularly as the chairman
of the Creative Young Entrepreneur
Luxembourg. It is
a great honor and an exciting
venture for me to be
able to help Luxembourg
and India to reinforce their
bonds.‖
IBCL is the result of the will
of alike minded people
interested in fostering an
economic- and business relationship
between the Republic
of India and Luxembourg
in different sectors
such as Technology, Finance,
Healthcare, Education, Research
& Development and
Culture. The slogan of IBCL
―working together, winning
together‖ echoes the IBCL
founders objective of being
a two-way gateway,
that will enable companies
to generate new contacts,
set up or grow their business
in each others country.
MONTHLY MEETING - MARCH
Corporate Responsibility
A driver to performance
Continuing the success of
the monthly meetings of
JCI Luxembourg, we were
honoured to welcome Mr.
Rémi Boyer, Vice President
at Arcelor Mittal at
our monthly meeting in
March.
Clearly passionate about
the topic, Mr. Boyer
caught the attention of
the audience and communicated
the importance of
―Cooperate Responsibility
as a driver to performance‖
in order to keep
the recognition and position
of a company. Under
the slogan ―Sustainability,
Quality, Responsibility‖
Mr. Boyer not only
pointed out why Cooperate
Responsibilities are
highly important to Arcelor
Mittal as a part of
their strategy, but also
explained different ways
of achieving and maintaining
them, giving examples
of projects like a
railway construction in
Liberia and a health
camp in India in order to
improve health and working
conditions in the industry.
But also in the supply
chain itself Arcelor Mittal
has recognized and aims
at ―green products‖ like
energy-efficient buildings
and weight reductions of
up to 30% in the car industries.
Like other monthly meetings,
it was an interesting
and informative evening
with many interesting
people coming to have a
drink, meet people and
feed their brains.
ECM PROGRAM (Provisional)
The first ECM took place in
Berlin in 1993, after JCI
leaders from the capitals of
Europe became aware that
they faced common issues
and a formal forum would
be useful to share ideas
and experiences.
Saturday May 9th
From May 7th to May 10th
2009, JCI Luxembourg will
welcome Jayces from all
European Capital Meeting.
(ECM).
JCI leaders from European
capital cities gather annually
at the ECM to discuss
common challenges, share
experiences, and define
What is
ECM
The ECM is the acronym for
European Capital Meeting. It is
not an official JCI meeting/conference
but none the less
it has survived throughout the
years with varying degrees of
success. As it is not an official
JCI event, the framework for the
meeting is more relaxed and it
is for the chapter that hosts the
meeting to fill out the agenda
with training, social events and
whatever is deemed necessary.
The focus of the ECM is for
members from capital chapters
to meet and address problems
that are normally found in capital
cities. It could be environment,
traffic, housing etc. – each
host plans the ECM according to
what is most relevant for their
In Luxembourg the 4 dayprogram
will include, meetings,
seminars, trainings,
tourist tours, visits to Chambre
de Commerce and Luxembourg
City Hall, Gala
dinner and Parties.
The ECM 2009 will be an
excellent opportunity to
meet our JCI colleagues,
make new friends and
enlarge our international
network.
social event where you meet
new and old friends from across
Europe. We have parties, sightseeing
and cultural events – all
designed to create the right
"JCI atmosphere".
COMMUNICATION
Communication
Join our journey!
With JCI Luxembourg growing
the need for an efficient
and successful communication
has increased as
well. Starting from a small
trip around the imparting of
information, it very quickly
became an exciting journey
full of challenges and adventures.
During the last two months
we have slowly but steadily
been busy building up a
new Communication team
for JCI Luxembourg. This
included identifying the
needs, finding the necessary
structure to support and
promote JCI and defining
the expected out-puts.
Consequently, the coordination
of the communication
team is intended to
cover the needs and manage
the outputs. In this context
the communication coordinator
is in charge of the
interacting of four subteams.
One team is responsible
for the web-site, another
group takes care of
the ingoing media, a third
group manages the outgoing
media, and a fourth
group ensures the editing of
what you are reading right
now - the newsletter. Every
part is im-portant, and
needs assist-ance…
SPONSORS & WHO WE ARE
Sponsors
It‘s about solid partnerships
It is definitely worth it to
have solid partners. That’s
the way JCI Luxembourg
keeps its projects reaching
their full potential.
Partnering with corporate
sponsors magnifies the impact
of JCI projects as JCI
create positive changes in
Luxembourg. "Sponsorship is
the key to moving forward,‖
says Sponsorship Consultant
Jill Larson. ―JCI can offer an
amazing amount of value to
partners. Companies want
to support noble causes.
And we can help to get
them there.‖
But, what is in it for the
partners
We aim at partnerships
more than at sponsorships.
The most important is what
kind of value our organiza-
tion offers to the potential
partner as a network of
young active citizens. The
main question is: ―how will
the partner benefit from
their partnership with us‖
Therefore, we try to combine
the value of JCI with
the need of a company in
order to create a partnership
that is of mutual benefit.
Some partners put their
premises at our disposal at
meetings or events, others
provide drinks, others host
our websites…
Companies, that choose to
become a partner of JCI,
knows that they gain publicity
and recognition in the
community, as we include
their name and logo in marketing
materials and thank
them publicly.
Maintaining partnerships
Our aim is to sustain an ongoing
dialogue with our
partners and make sure they
know their support is
Valuable to us. Therefore we
keep partners informed
of our project results and
show how their contributions
made the project possible.
Their help really makes the
difference.
MBW a new Partner.
We hereby want to thank
Mr. Boris Markschläger, from
MBW, Techniques du bâtiment,
for his support and
sponsorship, which allows JCI
Luxembourg to provide a
printed form of the Newsletter
to its members, friends
and partners.
