SICIS NEXT ART'S LEAF-INSPIRED FURNITURE COLLECTION
BY LOUISE GAUDERN | JULY 11TH 2013 | 10:12 AM
With summer only just beginning to set
in in the Northern Hemisphere, thoughts
of autumn leaves falling are far off.
SICIS Next Art, however, has made
leaves the loadstone rock around which
its new Foglie furniture collection
revolves.
Created by Alida Cappellini and Giovanni Licheri, set designers for theatre and
television productions, these furniture pieces initially featured on the small-screen set
of Italian show Alle falde del Kilimangiaro. Inspired by Mother Nature, Cappellini and
Licheri selected the leaves from several different trees from across the world to
incorporate into their work: red maple, oak, birch and magnolia. The pair then sought
to translate the depth of colour and intrinsic detail of the leaves into the forms of
overtly Baroque-inspired sofas and armchairs.
The distinctly different designs are on the cusp on interior design trends of the
moment too – with more and more architectural projects being led by eco elements
incorporating the exterior environment into everyday interiors, resulting in a gardenwithin-a-home
effect. Bound to become the centre of attention in any room, each
leaf design also represents a certain mood – so those wishing to create a certain feng
shui can choose their piece with care. Those wishing to incorporate energy into their
milieu can opt for the maple, whereas those wishing for a mystical touch to their
home's design should look towards the Birch tree - known for being cherished by the
Celtic, Siberian and Finnish peoples. If wishing for a pure, minimalist effect, then
choose the Magnolia – known for its clean lines, deity-like associations and dignity.
Last but not least, the Oak, renown for its enduring strength will undoubtedly bring an
unshakable force into a dwelling with its impressive and bold furniture pieces.
The shape of the sofas and armchairs are more that inviting as well – enveloping the
seated with a wrap-around embrace. Individualists will also be pleased to hear of the
bespoke elements to the furniture, with the opportunity on some pieces to choose
between printed and non-printed leather, as well as a variety of colours.
The design duo have also created nature-inspired tables too, comprising: Ondine
(waves), Foglia (Leaf), Noce (Nut) and Oro (Gold). The Gold coffee table is somewhat
contrasting to the rest of the adjacent, more classic collection, with its strong,
straight-lined gold structure and the bold and bright coloured leaf pattern created
with resin inserts that adorn it with blue and green agate hues alongside jade green
and turquoise. For those that aren't a Midas at heart, there is the option to have the
table in silver too, for an even edgier contemporary look.
A refreshingly natural collection which will not shed its chic appearance with the
changing of the seasons.
