Bus Travel Behaviour and Consequences
The following is an extract from the Diamond Valley College Handbook re: Behaviour and Bus Travel.
“The college has the authority to set behavioural expectations for students travelling to and from school
and to exclude student access to college buses should they not meet those requirements. The regular
roles and expectations of a classroom apply on the bus and students must also follow the directions of the
driver. Diamond Valley College students who travel by bus are expected to act appropriately and set a good
example for primary school students who share the service. “
The following is an extract from the School Planner re: Transport-Bus Travel
• Diamond Valley College bus travellers must carry a valid ID bus pass.
• A bus pass is valid only if the appropriate applications and payments have been made each
year.
• Fare paying travellers must present their bus pass together with their payment card to the
driver before boarding a bus.
• Students requesting to use the bus service on an irregular basis to visit friends etc. must bring
a note and seek permission from the College Bus Co-ordinator
• Any bus pass issued by Diamond Valley College must be carried at all times and remains the
property of the College.
Students
• Must wait in a safe and orderly manner, well back from the edge of the road when waiting to board
a bus.
• Must obey safety instructions given by the bus driver, bus supervisor or bus captain.
• Must remain seated at all times when the bus is moving
• Must not engage in any activity that would distract the bus driver when driving the bus
• A placement on the Diamond Valley College Bus Network is subject to the strict adherence to the
College Code of Conduct.
Non-compliance with any of the above conditions may result in the following:
• The driver will stop the bus.
• The offender’s name and full details of the breach will be recorded.
• The offender will be carried to school or to their normal drop-off.
• The breach will be reported to the principal.
• The principal will take disciplinary measures in accordance with the guidelines
In rare and exceptional circumstances – and only as a last resort – drivers are authorised to eject
passengers from a bus.
Following the report of a relevant incident, the principal will take the disciplinary action below:
• First offence – verbal warning to student
• Second offence – written warning to parent/guardian
• Third offence – one week suspension of student from school bus travel
• Fourth offence – the student will not be allowed to travel on the school bus for the remainder of
the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Parents/guardians are responsible for transporting their children to and from authorised bus-stops and for
their safety at the bus-stop while waiting for the bus. Students are to be at the morning bus stop 10
minutes prior to departure
It is most important that parents waiting for bus passengers at a roadside bus-stop stop should wait on the
same side of the road as the bus. This will prevent accidents.
Parents will notify the Principal or Bus Co-ordinator in writing within 7 days of any change of address or
school.
Parents agree to pay the costs of repairs or damage to the bus, or its replacement if totally destroyed,
caused by the vandalism or deliberate act of their child.
School bus travel is a privilege and not a right and consequences will follow a breach of these conditions.
It is understood that bus travel is provided and accepted on these conditions.
