BUS TRAVEL BEHAVIOUR AND CONSEQUENCESThe following is an extract from the <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> Handbook re: Behaviour and <strong>Bus</strong> <strong>Travel</strong>.“The college has the authority to set behavioural expectations <strong>for</strong> students travelling to and from schooland to exclude student access to college buses should they not meet those requirements. The regularroles and expectations of a classroom apply on the bus and students must also follow the directions ofthe driver. <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> students who travel by bus are expected to act appropriately and seta good example <strong>for</strong> primary school students who share the service. “The following is an extract from the School Planner<strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> bus travellers must carry a valid ID bus pass.A bus pass is valid only if the appropriate applications and payments have been made each year.Fare paying travellers must present their bus pass together with their payment card to the driverbe<strong>for</strong>e boarding a bus.Students requesting to use the bus service on an irregular basis to visit friends etc. must bring a noteand seek permission from the <strong>College</strong> <strong>Bus</strong> Co-ordinatorAny bus pass issued by <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> must be carried at all times and remains theproperty of the <strong>College</strong>.Students mustWait in a safe and orderly manner, well back from the edge of the road when waiting to board a bus.Obey safety instructions given by the bus driver, bus supervisor or bus captain.Remain seated at all times when the bus is movingNot engage in any activity that would distract the bus driver when driving the busA placement on the <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Bus</strong> Network is subject to the strict adherence to the<strong>College</strong> Code of Conduct.Non-compliance with any of the above conditions may result in the following: The driver will stop the bus. The offender’s name and full details of the breach will be recorded. The offender will be carried to school or to their normal drop-off. The breach will be reported to the principal who will take disciplinary measures in accordancewith the guidelines.In rare and exceptional circumstances – and only as a last resort – drivers are authorised to ejectpassengers from a bus.Following the report of a relevant incident, the principal will take the disciplinary action below: First offence – verbal warning to student Second offence – written warning to parent/guardian Third offence – one week suspension of student from school bus travel Fourth offence – the student will not be allowed to travel on the school bus <strong>for</strong> the remainder of the year.If you have any questions about the above requirements please contact <strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong> on9438 1411

<strong>Diamond</strong> <strong>Valley</strong> <strong>College</strong><strong>Bus</strong> <strong>Travel</strong>lers AgreementRESPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS/GUARDIANS & STUDENTSParents/guardians are responsible <strong>for</strong> transporting their children to and from authorised bus-stops and<strong>for</strong> their safety at the bus-stop while waiting <strong>for</strong> the bus. Students are to be at the morning bus stop 10minutes prior to departureIt is most important that parents waiting <strong>for</strong> bus passengers at a roadside bus-stop should waiton the same side of the road as the bus.
