As you are probably aware, the use of phones and electronic toys in Shul has become an
embarrassment and, as a result, we have had to adopt a new policy. In future, whenever
there is a Simcha in Shul we will be asking anyone who has any electronic device to leave
it at the gate where it will be identified and safely stored until the owner leaves the
Shul at the end of the morning. We do hope, however, that members will advise their
guests of this policy and that as a result all electronic equipment will be left at home.
In line with United Synagogue guidelines, and for everyone’s benefit, members are
requested not to attend any community activities if they are suffering from flu-like
symptoms. Anyone suffering from such symptoms should contact the National
Pandemic Flu Service on www.nhs.uk/AlertsEmergencies/Pages/Pandemicflualert.aspx
or 0800 1513 100.
Functions Committee
The Functions Committee has been re-formed. We hope to put on various events in
the area to raise money for the Shul [Card evenings, Quiz evenings and Dinners etc].
Anyone who is interested in joining the committee or willing to help at the events
please contact John Cassell through the Shul office or e-mail john.cassell@usa.net
Community Care Service
The confidential Community Care Service is available to support all members of the
community. Additionally, if you know of someone who is unfortunately ill or needs help,
please could you advise Rebecca: 020 8207 5741 or email care@borehamwoodshul.org
Financial Advice and Assistance Available
BES can provide access to financial advice and assistance for those requiring it. For
more information, contact Rabbi Brawer on 0208 386 5227 or Rebecca Brummer on
020 8207 5741.
Please be aware that the advice will be given by individuals who are independent of the
United Synagogue and who have kindly offered their services (free of charge).
Accordingly, neither the United Synagogue nor Borehamwood Synagogue can take any
responsibility for the quality of the advisors or of the advice given.
Children’s Services – Correction – Please note: Children should move up to the
next year group on the Shabbat morning of 5 September. The service for their year
group should therefore be exactly the same as a child’s new academic year also
commencing in September. They should not wait until after the Chagim.
Shiva Service Volunteers Required – if you are available to take an occasional
evening service at shiva houses, please contact the shul office. We are also looking
for someone to help co-ordinate shiva services
During the holiday season we would be grateful if gentlemen could support the
midweek morning and evening services.
Shabbat Shalom
