She is an active Rebbetzenin her community in <strong>Elstree</strong> & <strong>Borehamwood</strong> <strong>and</strong> a graduate of theLSJS Susi Bradfield Women Educators’ programme.Rebbetzen Deborah Garson was born <strong>and</strong> raisedin the UK. She graduated from Hasmonean GirlsSchool <strong>and</strong> Michalala Seminary for women. After achieving afirst class BA Hons from Middlesex University in Education <strong>and</strong>Information Technology, she went on to gain a post graduate inthe Psychology of Needs from the Institute of Education. In July2005, she returned from Israel with her husb<strong>and</strong> to take up herbusy role as Rebbetzen of Ohr Yisrael Federation, <strong>Elstree</strong>.Rabbi Natan Levy is the Rabbi of the Shenley United<strong>Synagogue</strong>, <strong>and</strong> a consultant with the London School of JewishStudies’ Jewish Responsibility Unit. He grew up in Berkeley, CAwithin a family where the Maccabeans were cast as Viet Congfreedom fighters, <strong>and</strong> Che Guevara was a latter-day Moses. Aftera stint in the AmeriCorps, teaching at-risk youth how to ride <strong>and</strong>care for horses, Natan won a scholarship to study environmentalprojects in the Negev of Israel. He stumbled upon Yeshiva <strong>and</strong>fell in love with learning, eventually spending seven years in variousprograms <strong>and</strong> earning rabbinical ordination from Yeshivat Hamivtar in Efrat.Natan <strong>and</strong> his wife Ariella moved to Bristol in 2005 to take up the position ofJewish University Chaplaincy family for the South of Engl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Wales. InSeptember of 2008, they moved to Shenley with their two small children tojoin one of the warmest Jewish communities this side of Sinai. Natan spendshis weekdays researching <strong>and</strong> teaching on Global Justice <strong>and</strong> Environmentalawareness through a Torah lens.Rabbi Avi Sharf is LSJS’s Rabbinic Scholar in Residence <strong>and</strong>the Rabbi of the Alei Tzion Community at LSJS <strong>and</strong> Rosh Kollelof the Torah MiTzion Kollel London, in Immanuel College. From2002 to 2004 he was the Rabbi of Young Israel-OU <strong>Synagogue</strong><strong>and</strong> Rosh Kollel Torah MiTzion at the Centre for Jewish Living atCornell University. He has been the Rosh Beit Midrash at KehilatShirat Shlomo in Efrat <strong>and</strong> the Rav Mechanech at Ohr TorahStone Yeshiva High School in Ramot. He did halachic researchfrom R. Shehas a degree in English Literature from the University of Sussex <strong>and</strong>a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She taught English at NorthLondon Collegiate School <strong>and</strong> has held posts as the Education Officerof the Jewish Council for Racial Equality, Head of Jewish Literacy at UJIA<strong>and</strong> Senior faculty member of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School.Maureen broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio <strong>and</strong> writes articles <strong>and</strong>book reviews for the Jewish Chronicle. She is an Ashdown Fellow <strong>and</strong>was named Educator of the Year 2004 by the London Jewish Cultural Centre.She leads educational tours in London <strong>and</strong> teaches regularly in many synagogues.Simon Cooper Teaching Fellow Simon recently submitted his PhD thesison Jewish Covenantal Theology in the Dept. of Theology & ReligiousStudies at King’s College, London. He lectures all over the Jewishcommunity on contemporary Jewish thought, <strong>and</strong> on medieval <strong>and</strong>modern Jewish philosophy. Simon is editorial assistant of the Journal ofJewish Studies <strong>and</strong> leads Jewish educational tours to Israel <strong>and</strong> Europe.Rabbi Tugendhaft spent many years in the famed Mir Yeshiva inJerusalem. In 1999 he founded the Ohr Yisrael shul in <strong>Elstree</strong>, where heserved as Rabbi for six years. A lover of mysticism, Talmud <strong>and</strong> Jewishlaw, he is now the voice at the end of seed’s ‘Halacha Hotline’, so if youhave a question for a Rabbi you know where to turn. But be very careful– he is an expert in martial arts which he practices in his spare time!Rabbi Raphy Garson was born in Manchester <strong>and</strong> broughtup in Gibraltar. He spent 4 years studying in Israel before marryingDeborah. Upon returning to the UK he studied at Kings College London,<strong>and</strong> graduated with a Computer Science & Management degree. He thenreturned to Israel for a further 4 years, to study for Semicha under theAuspices of the Chief Rabbinate <strong>and</strong> the former Chief Rabbi Of Israel –Harav Mordechai Eliyahu. In July 2005 he arrived back in the UK withDeborah <strong>and</strong> their children to take up position as Rav of Ohr YisraelFederation <strong>Synagogue</strong>, <strong>Elstree</strong>.He is the founder of the successful HLX (Hertfordshire Learning Experience),‏.ז’’ל which was set up in memory of Rabbi Shmuli KassIn addition, he is also a Rabbinical Consultant for JABE (Jewish Association ofBusiness Ethics), <strong>and</strong> regularly runs their programs in schools <strong>and</strong> centres acrossLondon.Rabbi Silver is a lecturer of international fame. He has enthralledaudiences with his passion, charisma <strong>and</strong> dramatic style ofpresentation. American born, <strong>and</strong> educated both in the States <strong>and</strong> inIsrael, he brings to the podium years of in-depth study <strong>and</strong> educationalexperience.
